The Buzz analogy is a good one. People forget that Buzz was probably a year or two away from being fired. Had a bad last season, and the next one was looking dismal.

People are also forgetting that before the ACU game, Texas was considering giving Shaka an extension.

People will look at a coach coming off a B12 tournament championship, and a 3-seed, and a former Final Four coach, leaving to go to MU. The optics are pretty awesome.

And what did he do with that 3 seed?

Virginia, just a few short years ago, had a dynamite team and lost to UMBC, a 16 seed. We didn't fire Hank (we should have) and Virginia didn't fire Tony Bennett.

Don't forget the rest of the story...they won the National Championship the following year...and then lost the 4/13 matchup to Ohio this year.

I'd take a natty if that meant sandwiching it between two first round exits.

Porter Moser went 12 years without an NCAA tournament win. Did that mean he was destined to go another 12 years without an NCAA tournament win? Jay Wright went 10 years without an NCAA tournament win. Did that mean he was destined to go another 10 years without an NCAA tournament win?

Should stuck with Wojo then, no?

Do we look like the desperate person that got spurned years ago and now is ready to take them again with open arms because we're still enamored with them?

Or does Shaka look like he's coming to us saying "should've gone with you way back when"?

Just feels like the national perception is  one or the other given Donedeal part 1.

I don't think Donedeal Part 1 is as known nationally as you think it is.  I'm guessing not many beyond Scoop know what you're talking about.

In the realm of things, who cares?  Not me

I want to hear if they went after Moser or not and would feel much better if they did and it didnt work out

We did, he was very interested, we got the guy we wanted instead.

Agreed. Overall, can't complain and hopefully Shaka injects some new energy and less vanilla personality into the program.

Seems like Texas is spinning that Shaka was on his way out and jumped on the first life boat that could keep him afloat?

See: https://austonia.com/shaka-smart-leaves-ut

"Smart switched to Marquette before the university took action. He had about $7.1 million in guaranteed income left on his remaining two-year contract."

"His job role at Marquette has not been specified, but with the Marquette's head coaching slot open, reports say he's secured that position."  ;D ;D ;D

It was brought up on Goodman's podcast the other day. Maybe it's not as well remembered but it was a big deal at the time and made respected journalists even sit there with egg on their face

Jeff Goodman doesn't seem like a fan.  Even posted his crappy Texas resume on Twitter.

Commenters don't get the Shaka hype, either.

Love this by Strotman: There is some beautiful irony in the fact that a guy left Buzz's dream job to go coach Marquette.

Goose,

This is a rock solid move. I couldn't be more proud of MU. This is a signature hire.

I'm with you Goose. Al is looking down smiling.

Shaka and MU are the Ross and Rachel of college hoops

Friends is a terrible show.

Not a bad take though.

Goodman not happy with the amount of loose balls Texas got in their NCAA game?  NCAA in 8 of 11 years, FF, Conf Champ...I don't know who you wanted for a coach...but they didn't have that resume over the last 11 years.

Buzz is a Texas guy. Shaka is a cheesehead.

Culture and upbringing play a role. It isn't that weird.

He's just pissed he was wrong. He was beating the Moser drum pretty loudly.

He will be on the NCAAT breaks spewing all things MU and Big East this weekend.

An upset or two from our conference reps would be nice to keep the conversation focused on the BE. Plus a few extra dollars to replenish the coffers in athletics.

I'm pretty excited.

It would be nice if he acknowledges he contacted Justin, DJ, Greg and Dawson and says, "they're staying!"

At the introduction, I'd like to see Shaka and the players all shave their heads.

1000%%.  And clearly Shaka is not one of "his guys" in terms of information leaks.
