Media seeds MU No. 7 in mock brackets

A group of 20 college basketball writers and another 20 broadcast journalists both drafted mock NCAA tournament brackets earlier this week.

ESPN.com's Andy Katz was in the war room for each session and offers fans his analysis.

Marquette was seeded No. 7 in both 65-team fields. The writers have MU playing Massachusetts while the broadcasters have 10th-seeded-Florida facing the Golden Eagles.

Syracuse -- Marquette's final opponent of the regular season -- seemed to be a squad of much debate for a third straight season.

In Bracketology this week, Joe Lunardi shares the pairings selected by the broadcasters.

For an idea on how important the Ratings Percentage Index standing is to the selection process, check out how the seeds are broken down by the numbers.

Turning to Saturday's game against Notre Dame, Gary Parrish of CBS Sportsline can't figure out why Luke Harangody is a mere blip on the national college basketball radar screen, despite being the current favorite for Big East player of the year.

Seth Davis of Sports Illustrated isn't crazy about Marquette's chances either.

Marquette spanked the Irish by 26 on Jan. 12, but that was in Milwaukee, and the Golden Eagles have since suffered three losses by 14 or more points, including Monday's 71-57 defeat at Louisville. Dominic James has been playing with a sprained right wrist the last two weeks, and to be fair he had a bad case of the flu on Monday. But it's not a good sign when the maladies of a single player can throw a team off its game so badly.

Davis picks the Irish...82-70.
