Sad and Terrible is exactly how to describe Wojo's performance over 7 grueling
years.  Sorry you missed it.

best recruiting coach MU ever had and in a year where Kentucky, Duke and Michigan Sate are not in the tournament he gets fired?  last year they could have been bounced in the first round, but had talent to make elite 8 so we'll never know.  this year was a waste and a strong FR class and good incoming class next year are all but gone.  guess it's back to the Mike Deane years or worse we'll be the next DePaul in the conference
Best recruiting coach? What about Al or Crean or O'Neil. All 3 did better with their recruits than Wojo-Dukiet!

Not really, MU has recruited 4 MCD AA in its history, Wojo got two.  He was getting talent.

But, on the other side, he was not the next Jay Wright or Kevin Willard either.

If you can't win with them, it doesn't matter.

It depends on who they hire to replace him.  But I agree, the crowd celebrating the Wojo firing have no idea that this is the most dangerous period for MU basketball since Dukiet.

If MU screws up this next hire, we are at risk of becoming the next Depaul

This.
Zenyatta has a lot....a lot... of ground to make up. She gets there from here she'd be a super horse......what's this.....Zenyatta hooked to the grandstand side....Zenyatta flying on the outside....this....is...un-belieeeeeevable!...looked impossible at the top of the stretch...

I'm not saying that it was wrong to fire Wojo. Just saying that that's only the first step to stop the bleeding. The turnaround happens with the RIGHT hire, not just any hire.   Keep the current guys, bring his own guys, I don't care. But we all know "anyone but Wojo" is not the full answer to this problem.

Yep. And with some of the names being thrown out there, it seems like a lot of people simply want us to hire "anyone but Wojo."

Exactly. The status quo was not working. Maybe in year 12 Wojo would've pulled it off.

I would have taken the "over" on 12.

Just glad it's no longer a topic of discussion.

I'm worried as well. Everyone assumes we'll make a home run hire...but it's a lot easier to get a bloop single or even strike out.

If we go into the summer without DJ, DJ, JFL and the new recruits, the new guy will have a lot to prove in a hurry.

Wojo made one tournament appearance (10 seed, blown out), an NIT appearance, and missed the postseason twice entirely in his first four years and no one batted an eye.

Why would things change this time around?

I am in agreement with Warriors78 on this.  Am dissapointed in the decision to relieve Wojo of head coaching duties.  Next year with Wojo could have been very special.

Agreed, Orange.  I don't get why he was somehow the exception, and why he was given such a long leash by such a large portion of the fan base.  I don't know that I've ever seen a guy lauded for so much who accomplished so little.  Factor in what he was paid, and it was truly absurd.

What was it like growing up with Wojo as a younger brother?

This is Chico or Dodds.  Although Dodds is such a company man that he'll slurp whoever's hired next.  Very strange.

You are missing my point. I didn't say anything about things changing this time around. I was simply saying I am worried because there is always a chance we might hire someone who does even worse.

And yeah; that is possible.

It's unrealistic not to acknowledge that this could end up looking like a terrible move for Marquette.

However, I'm putting trust in the admin to make the right moves, and find a charismatic X's & O's guy that can lead the team.

True. Risk with any new hire. Wojo could land on his feet somewhere and figure it out. Only time will tell. But the move had to be made.

Get outta here....that is all you cried about.

You got what you wanted...unreal. He did a great job under the circumstances.

Now I laugh when half the team transfers....AND NOW YOU STILL WONT WIN!!!

Respectfully, if you're an AD and/or school president, I don't think fear of failure is a reason you keep a coach in whom you have lost confidence.

Yes, we could do worse. But if you're a P6 AD, you have confidence in your own ability to choose a coach who will do better.

Oh I agree, it's entirely possible the next guy is worse, but the idea that he has to win right away or else the fans will revolt is wildly overblown, since Wojo sure as hell didn't and people fell all over themselves defending him. Every fan base has a contingent of fans who want the coach gone. That's just how it goes.
