Name a program where every player left in a coaching change?

Players usually would have to sit if they transfer.  That's not happening this year.  We have eight returning players and three signees.  None from Wisconsin.  None from even Illinois.  The reason they came to Milwaukee was due to Wojo and his staff.

I mean, would you stay if you were Dawson?  Justin?  Osa?  I most certainly would be looking at all of my options.

I doubt every player leaves. They also need somewhere to go. Some might view MU as the best chance at a lot of playing time.

I would expect Garcia, Carton, and Lewis to leave. Although, I'm not sure we go transfer-free if there is no coaching change.

New transfer rules make it easy, but like I said, any that stay are a bonus. Will they all leave? Probably not. But I'm not counting on any of them staying. And that's fine.

Yep - Not making a change because you're worried about player defections is an extremely short term view.

To what end?  They're all starters next year in a P6 conference and will the stars of the team and get the most minutes.  To have a better chance of winning?  If they don't get along with the new hire then I totally understand.

Other than the big three do you really care if anyone else leaves (Sy, Greg, Jose, Dex even Osa)?

There has to be teams that would take them.

Nope. Osa is intriguing. So may be Dex. But they're very replaceable. Sh, Greg and Jose? If they want to leave we'll pay for their ticket.

You mean Sy and yeah, I'm really disheartened by them. Greg I thought was a steal given his senior year scoring in HS. Sy had flashes last year and took a turn for the wayyy worse.

I have serious doubts about any guy who can't break the rotation on this team.

I think y'all are giving up too early on Jose. I don't think he's going to be a world beater or anything but I wouldn't put much stock in how he plays after being out for as long as he was.

Any word on why he quit Gardner Webb halfway through the season last year?

You know the sound that happens when you're drinking a glass of soda with ice in it through a straw, and you drink up every last drop of soda but keep sucking on the straw, and it makes that slurping noise?  I tried to read your post out loud just now, and instead of words, that sound was the only thing that came out.  It really was the strangest thing.

Wojo said Perez was out because he wasn't in shape.  The guy has old man game.  He's 22 going on 45 and looks like he should be playing pickup ball at the YMCA on Saturday mornings.  Even though he's only played a handful of games for Marquette, based on what I've seen, I do not think he belongs at the high major level.  I think low major Gardner Webb, where he started, was right about where he should've been.  And low major is where he'll be next year, most likely.  I'd be very surprised if he's back, Wojo or no Wojo.

You often say, "There's plenty to rip on Wojo for, you don't need to make stuff up."  Well, the same thing applies here.  There's plenty of things to slurp about this program (well, actually there aren't), you don't need to make stuff up.  I mean, you realize Wojo cares nothing for you, right?  You don't need to keep carrying the torch for him.  As John Rambo said in First Blood, "Let it go.  Let it...go."

I think most are giving up on Perez at just the right time. Like Wojo, the kid's in way over his head

I have to admit, I felt bad after reading your novel here. I thought I must have posted a glowing review about Jose's abilities. So I double checked.

Nope, I just commented that a transfer may not be at 100% after being out for a year. I made similar comments about Lockett, Rowsey, and Reinhardt when people declared they were garbage after a few games. And just to avoid you overanalyzing that last line, no I am not saying that Jose is going to be as good as any of those transfers, just pointing out that some transfers take time to find their footing.

I know for you everything is either a pro-Wojo or anti-Wojo post but sometimes there's no hidden message or agenda. Sometimes people just say what they mean.

Agreed TAMU we have no idea yet how Perez is going to play out.  The percentages are that he will not be an impact player for our program. But there is literally no game tape at MU that would tell us either way.   We all need to see more.

If he fails, it's just another Wojo disappointment.   Need to reserve judgment for now however.

Boone

An adjustment curve is expected, but Perez looks really out of his league. Lockett and Reinhardt came from programs in power conferences so talent wasn't the issue.  Just needed time to settle in. Rowsey's shooting touch and moxie allowed him to make the jump from low D1. Perez doesn't seem to have a similar transferable skill set. He's a lot closer to Chartouny 2.0 than Lockett or Reinhardt 2.0

Jose has played in three games, the last two after sitting out nearly three months.  He might not be very good.  He might be a pleasant surprise.  None of us really know.

One thing I do know that it is way too early to make definitive statements about his abilities.

Every coach has "disappointments" - transfers and recruits that don't work out. Even 5-stars like Grimes at Kansas and Quinerly at Nova. It happens.

Perez might not be good. It's simply too early to tell.

But that didn't stop Scoopers from jumping all over Lockett and Reinhardt. Lockett, people just thought sucked. Reinhardt - there seemed genuine hatred toward him. As an MU alum, it was embarrassing.

So no, I'm not going to declare Perez a lost cause yet. Maybe he will be, but I want to give him a fair chance.
