Alcaraz was noticeably rusty as he and Serena were eliminated in the second round. He'll need to play much better in singles to advance very far.

It nonetheless was entertaining watching them compete together.

Djokovic just lost the 1st set in the USOpen.   His 77 straight 1st round gs wins in on the line.  No pun intended.  He looks quite sluggish and is spraying errors all over the place.  Will he wake up, or is he done?

Novak is decidedly not woke. But also not dead because not vaxxed.

Djokovic is one of the most remarkable, accomplished athletes ever. But Father Time remains unbeaten.

Due to his polarizing persona and career (would still be 100% accurate statement if the COVID vaccine controversy never happened), people (mostly parasocial ghouls on social media) will be dancing on his grave and rejoicing as he's breaking down ending his run.  But I was glancing at his career timeline after I saw he lost, and even without the topline accomplishments (most majors, most weeks as #1, most years as #1), his longevity is absolutely preposterous.  15 year stretch between his bookened majors (2008-2023) is amazing, but if you go appearances in major finals, it goes even further to 19 years (2007-2026).  Between 2007 and 2026, there were only 2 years he didn't make a Slam final (2009 and 2025).  But the most preposterous for me...between 2011 and 2023, a 12 year period, he won 23 Slams and in the Quarters (or earlier)...9 times. Just defies belief.  Oh and 1 of those was the 2020 US Open where he got DQ'd after accidentally hitting the linesman.

Given that his career was filled with 4-5 set matches where he started slow cause he knew he could grind down opponents in later sets with endurance/technique/stamina, its beyond freakish that he's been able to play this long at a meaningful top level and miss no real extended time due to injuries.

It's hard to argue he's not the best ever - and I say that as a huge Rafa fan.

He's been a great foil, too, and sports needs those!

Bump.

He's starting to put it together. Not quite there yet, but up from 160 to 90. Would bet he works his way into the top 40-50 next year.

Foe would have lost that match last year. So glad his commitment and fitness are back. Great seeing him play good tennis again.

Great chance to make a run here. Even better chance to make the ATP finals.
