Wow.  Shelton really blew an opportunity there.

Now Shelton won?  Ugh.  Even more reason to boycott.  I want to see clean cut tennis, not hip hop tennis.

Give Shelton credit.  He took advantage of the opportunity which I said was there. Carlos could not shake off the rust but hopefully we'll see him healthy in 2027.

The Tiafoe/Shelton match should be electric.  I'm definitely rooting for Tiafoe but I think Ben has the advantage.  He's really improved his backhand and overall consistency.

Beyond ridiculous.

Agreed. The late night in NY thing is cool, especially in the early rounds, but finishing a match at 3:30 local time is an embarassment.

Many people saw this coming.  Carlos had 53 ufe's, which is insanely high based on the speed of the court and the shorter rallies.  There were also two short sets.  Taking nothing away from Ben, Alcaraz had his C+ game.  I also don't choose to "usurp" other savants,  unless they're part of my security team, and have a very particular set of skills.

And showing his girlfriend constantly who is doing the same thing in women's soccer. This is a five alarm fire for the sanctity and etiquette of two beautiful elegant sports

3 DEI semifinalists and counting. Praying for Rico

Ty, Coco!!!

Sincerely,

Everyone.

I do not like Andreeva.  :)

Zverev is a major concern and a Gargantuan obstacle for either Shelton/Tiafoe come Sunday.  I'm afraid the 23 yr drought will continue.

It's cool to see the top 4 women in the SF.

BM1090

I think both Shelton and Tiafoe are mentally ready for it, which is not something I would have said in the past.

Zverev will be the favorite, but I think Shelton gets him if that's the matchup. Zverev's return can be exploited. Tiafoe will need something special, but he seems up for it. Up to 8 in the world and in the midst of clearly the best year of his career.

I really hope you're right and agree Shelton has a significantly better chance.  Zverev can lock down and become a ball machine.  And also produce cannon serves.  Maybe the crowd can somehow make a major (no pun intended) impact?

As for the 🇺🇸 women, the task may be even more difficult.  Pegula has been in this position a lot but hasn't been able to find her game.  Sabalenka seems to have too much power.  She will have to have a quasi meltdown.

Coco is a tremendous, tremendous, competitor.  Her greatness is that she can win matches with her C+ game.  We know she can go off the rails with her serve and forehand.  Rybakina is such a clean ball striker and has the ultimate weapon with her serve.  When she gets into a rhythm, it's generally a thanks for playing situation for her opponents.  Coco is the best counterpuncher in the game and can deal with her pace, but can she find her serve today?

MuggsyB

Pegula had no chance today vs Sabalenka.  Too much power + precision.

MuggsyB

Coco is ripping the ball early in this match.  But can she dismiss Elena??

MuggsyB

Ughhh....Coco lost focus.  Go back to flattening the forehand and ripping it, in lieu of the semi top-spin loop.

MuggsyB

Tremendous defense from Coco to stay in the set and break back.

MuggsyB

Disappointing, but Rybakina earned it tonight. Great effort from Coco but her forehand broke down a bit.

Uncle Rico

Some great results in NYC!

It didn't break down. It crashed. If she even has a slightly above average forehand, she's a #1/2 player in the world.

Zverev becomes the 12th men's player ever to make a 3rd straight major final. Career has taken off this year.

Hope Shelton or Tiafoe destroy him.

After Sunday he'll have played 4 out of 9 possible matches against top 10 players (Fritz, Coboli, Sinner, Tiafoe/Shelton) in the three majors. Easy road for sure. But can't control that. Lots of players make runs in Majors and 1000s because of open draws.

I did state that Zverev had a cakewalk to the Finals.  I fully expect a Ryder Cuppish crowd Sunday but I'm not sure that will phase the Giant German.  Rybakina deserves a lot of credit for how she handled last night during and after the match.
