Seattle has chosen their name, Kraken, logo, and colors etc...

JWags85

They absolutely killed it IMO

shoothoops

Colors and logos look good, (mild resemblance w/Winnipeg).

KrakHeads in the KrakHouse.

Pakuni

Looking forward to the puns every time the team cuts a player.

Why can't Wisconsin have a team? :(

Just kidding, I already know.

Seattle got this thing entirely right. Well done.

my preference was Sockeyes but I have no issue with Kraken and the logo is killer.

The "S" is very similar to the "S" in the White Sox logo. Very sharp.

Now bring back The Whalers please.

I thought the hype video was pretty well done, also.  Lots of shots of the city and some historical stuff thrown in there. I tried to watch it thinking "if there was a Milwaukee version of this, how would I feel about it?" and the answer is that I'd want to run through a brick wall to put a ticket deposit down, soooooo mission accomplished.

The video was INCREDIBLE. I have a fondness for Seattle, but no real connection to it, but the shots of the city and the shipyards and what not fired me all the way up. Got chills when they put up the pictures of the old Seattle Metropolitans.

What's interesting to me about the team, is other than the very minority owner running the team who used to be the CEO of the Seahawks and Paul Allen's Vulcan Sports, is that the main money has no connection to Seattle. It's Jerry Bruckheimer, who is from Detroit before his Hollywood success, and then David Bonderman from TPG, which is obviously California based.  Just odd given how much money is in Seattle.

Some good news in the NHL, which begins its tournament Aug. 1: The league administered 4,256 tests to more than 800 players over the last week. Zero tested positive for COVID-19.

This is an entire NHL thread, but, this post brings us back to the Seattle Kraken.

Everett Fitzhugh has been named play by play voice of the Kraken. And with that he becomes the first Black play by play NHL voice.

This is a good piece about his hire as well as a link to a nice piece about his life background. A nice story:

For those w/o an Athletic subscription (they have a lot of free trials too) :

Lamont Buford has also been hired as VP of game presentation, as well as Johnny Greco as Senior VP of game presentation and live entertainment.

Guilty. And I was three when they moved.

Helps that they are in Canada too. Six deaths across the entire country reported today.

I don't go in the cesspool that is the COVID board, so I may have missed it, but I don't think I've seen anyone argue that bubbles aren't effective for professional sports. The only arguments I have seen have been about whether or not a bubble is possible/appropriate for college sports. Bubbling 30 teams worth of employees is a lot different ask than bubbling 353 teams worth of student athletes (and that's just D1 men's basketball).

It was actually in the NBA thread. Predicting the bubble to be a huge failure (and stating all sports would be a massive mess) and show how badly everything was handled.  Which has not been the case.  The MLB has been the worst and they've even navigated it well, save for the Marlins situation.  The NBA and the NHL have been resounding successes thus far.

But otherwise I totally agree. Bubbles seem super difficult for CBB and football seems tricky given number of teams for the former, and team sizes and whatnot for the latter. The NFC North would have as many players alone as practically the entire NBA bubble
