1. No, they weren't. There were national lockdowns from late March to late May 2020 and August 2021 to December 2021. In addition, the Auckland region had lockdowns From August to September 2020 and February to March 2021. So, at worst, there were 11 months of lockdown over a 24-month period.
2. The population was free to remove those imposing the restrictions from office through peaceful means (i.e. voting). Instead, they gave the prime minister and her party a landslide victory. Doesn't seem very tyrannical.

81 million people voted for biden. Never underestimate the power of stupid people.
