I just finished watching....

I forgot how good of a game this was....

Jerome whitehead was a beast!
Al mcguire rolling the dice all game with Bo having 4 fouls
Butch having trouble with the big guards
Jim Boylan coming up big.

Great trip down memory lane!

It's on YouTube.  If your TV has an internet connection select the YouTube AP  and search the NC Charlotte VS Marquette game.

My brother and I were there at the Omni for that weekend.  The memories are still fresh.

Watch at the very end of the broadcast as the camera pans the OMNI. Is it me or just an illusion created by the camera angle....

***but doesn’t it look like the scoreboard is being lowered? WTF?!***

Since you were there, thought I would ask. Why would it be lowered with the UNLV vs UNC game starting immediately after?

Maybe AL paid off the scoreboard lift operator to quietly raise it just a bit before the Whitehead heroics 😆
Zenyatta has a lot....a lot... of ground to make up. She gets there from here she’d be a super horse......what’s this.....Zenyatta hooked to the grandstand side....Zenyatta flying on the outside....this....is...un-belieeeeeevable!...looked impossible at the top of the stretch...

They were lowering it.  My guess is they had to change the team names because back then those were still backlit depending on the age of the scoreboard.

Correct. The team names were printed on panes of plastic and slid into place.

Yep, I remember the scoreboard being lowered and a ladder being brought in to change the team names. Btw, that UNC/UNLV game was highly entertaining.

Cool!

I don't have any net, but I still have my ticket stub, program and Final Four t-shirt.

I know this thread is about the semifinal game, but I just now watched the video of the title game.

Obviously, I'm thrilled we won it. I was a HS junior, and that definitely influenced my college decision. Loved the unis, thought Al was the coolest coach in the world in any sport, enjoyed Butch et al.

But, trying to be a little detached and objective here ...

It was a boring game, especially the last 10 minutes or so. Both teams kept trying to stall, they kept having to delay it to towel off the court, and it took forever to play the last 70-80 seconds  because it was a foul fest. Just the entire game was played at a pace similar to some of the games involving the Madison team we like to make fun of.

If that game was being played now (and if it involved any school that wasn't Marquette), lots of Scoopers would be saying, "College basketball sure is down this year if those two teams are in the title game."
