Jeff Goodman reporting that Rick Pitino has a deal in place to coach Iona.  MU missing out on a great coach at a bargain price.  He'd get them within a sniff of a final four in 3 years.

Windyplayer

Probably within a sniff of a few other things as well.

HutchwasClutch

As badly as I want Wojo gone, any big time program would be insane to hire him. There's good reason he has to settle for Iona.

Yes, make sure wife has a seat belt on her chair if you spot Pitino at the local Olive Garden.

WhiteTrash

Would be a massive upgrade on the court and in wins & losses, but couldn't stomach worrying about when the NCAA would come calling.

franklinjerry

Really? In 2023 Iona will be sniffing the final four? A roster of current high schoolers who don't know what an Iona is will be charging to final four territory?

Don't think so. But whoever he gets will learn how to play the game.

Pitino is a disgrace. College basketball is better off without him.

Look there is no way I would hire him at MU.

But he is a helluva basketball coach. He ended up winning the Greek playoffs after he ended up there last year. The Celtics were his only failure. He will win at Iona.

Deal is reportedly worth 1.1 million per year.  That's what....... half the cost of Wojo?

willie warrior

If Pitino upgrades Iona, and he should, he will only be there 2 years before he bolts for another program  or the head Marie d job opens at Porcinis
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

We should have offered Pitino. He's 67. He'll want to rehabilitate his image. He'd be on best behavior. We'd be back to winning like we did under Buzz in a matter of two to three years max.

I don't think Jesuits/Catholics are in any position to pass judgment on moral character. What the Catholic Church did covering up the horrible sexual misconduct of some priests as compared to Pitino?  Slick Rick's stuff was kid stuff. No pun intended.

Makes me feel even better about it.

People aren't worthy of forgiveness, redemption and second chances?

That's a lot better than your "the Catholic Church has been pretty sh*tty" take.

Everyone should be forgiven. That doesn't mean he gets to be your basketball coach.

Right. We need clean cut Steve to continue to polish our image into that of Duke. Nothing less attractive than being a wanna be. MU will never be Duke. Or Stanford.

Let's get back to being what we are - An urban institution, that had a pioneer of a coach who broke down racial barriers, challenged group think, and pushed the envelope. And that WON. Big time.

Basketball success drives applications to MU better than virtually any other catalyst.

I want Wojo out too.

The rest of your post really has nothing to do with Pitino.

Takes like this prove we don't need Pitino at MU.

BTW, since your painting with broad brushes, I'm for ending Boy Scouts, gymnastics, doctors, the film industry, the government, judges, teachers, etc..........

Wow, we are that desperate for a win to the point of wanting to hire Rick Pitino.  I think I need to be disinfected.

The man ran a brothel on campus for his players.  He is the last person I'd want coming anywhere near this program.  He's the walking definition of scoundrel.
