Markus Howard's scoring alone is reason enough why he deserves to be the National Player of the Year. Highlights include...

  • No high-major player has averaged more ppg than Howard in his lifetime.
  • Every high-major player in the past 25 years to enter the top-25 in career scoring won the NPOY award.
  • Howard has scored 30+ points to lead his teams to wins more often than all the other NPOY candidates combined.

Great, no, dare I say excellent research report!

How do you define high major? Markus is insane. We will never see another player like that here again. His scoring record will never be broken at MU

I'm gonna guess it's players for P6 schools.

Big East, Big 10, Pac-12, SEC, ACC, Big 12

The American might also fit the mold. While I understand that from year to year leagues like the A-10, C-USA, and Mountain West had some nice years, they did have the consistent league quality of the six above.

Definitely not the (Morrison) WCC or (Curry era) SoCon. While Gonzaga and Davidson may have been good at the time the leagues and competition were not. I suppose a case could be made for Jimmer Fredette and BYU in the Mountain West in 2011, and I suppose it would be fair, but Jimmer won a NPOY so his prolific scoring would only strengthen Howard's case for NPOY.

Last time we had a NPOY, we won it all.

Just saying

No pressure.

Start your National Marquette Day with a dive into Markus Howard's historic scoring prowess. A few more highlights:

  • 4 of the 6 players to score 25.8+ in the last 26 years won NPOY.
  • The top-10 NPOY candidates are 3-1 when scoring 40 points, Howard is responsible for all 3 wins.
  • Howard has made more free throws than all but one other player in the country has taken.

This technically correct, but he won it the following year.

Brew, who does M2N pass today?

Butler is a Pomeroy A opponent, which Markus has struggled against this season (94.8 Orating vs. 112.1 for the season). His eFG% is 43% versus a 52% overall.

In seasons past he performed similarly or better versus A opponents. Fresher legs, a week to work on getting him freer, and he had his nasal procedure to set his nose and heal—looking for a big game today.

2 threes and he passes Gerry McNamara for the Big East record. 6 and he passes Rowsey for the threes by a Marquette player record. If he really goes off today, he could break Lawrence Moten's scoring record in Big East games (39 points) and if he REALLY goes off he could (with Jordan) break the NCAA sibling scoring record held by Cheryl & Reggie Miller (49 points).
