One of my favorite Marquette players.

The diet version of Markus. The 5'10 undersized scoring who could light it up. His 3 from the corner against Louisville is one of my sharpest Marquette memories as a kid

Jay Bee

The portal is NOT closed.

High fived Hutch at my sophomore year Winter Flurry. My favorite MU player while I was in school.

Uncle Rico

Pretty nifty story.  Great Marquette player
"Well, we're all going to die."

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Was my favorite player as a kid. I was 6 years old for that three against Louisville. Still remember it clear as day.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

GooooMarquette

Great story about a true Warrior. His performances against UL are the stuff of legend.

More like BLURRY FLURRY, am I right?

Hutch was my favorite player growing up. Just hit big shot after big shot. Shut down the Fieldhouse with 25. Dagger three at the MECCA in the NIT. That shot against UL. What a player.

Mr. Sand-Knit

Hutch was clutch!!!
Deane handcuffed him as aFreshman until he let him loose and the rest is history.  That and health issues as aSenior or that young man goes from an all time great to a serious discussion of being on MUs Mt. Rushmore and in the rafters. One of the all time great Warriors and one of the most beloved for certain

Everybody loves and appreciates Hutch.

I know he had the sickle cell, but didn't he also hurt his ankle as a senior? That team started 10-0 and fell off a cliff, and I seem to remember him being injured.

The Lens

I think it was more than just the sickness and injury.  There was a growing disconnect.  Al McGuire gave Mike some pretty incredible advice for dealing with Hutch.

No pun intended since John Cliff played on the team?  8-)

Hutch took his time coming back from the ankle injury because of that disconnect.  Hutch also thought Deane was a racist.

Not that Hutch was innocent in the issues between him and Deane. Academic eligibility was always a worry with Hutch. Managers had to wait outside of classrooms to make sure Hutch was there and Dan Theiss was often responsible for marching Hutch to his classes.

He's had a tough go of it after college. The car accident that ended his draft prospects, his son dying young. I'm glad he finally came back and finished his degree.

Didn't realize it was Pat Hughes (current radio voice of the Cubs) on the call.

Was Hughes still doing work for the Brewers then?

A few months after this game, Pat started his first season as a Cubs broadcaster.
