Maryland Game Thread
« on: December 01, 2019, 08:59:23 AM »
3 Hours till tip. Can we notch a top 5 win today? I believe we will and it will launch us into a top 20 if not 15 ranking. Almost everyone has played in the top 25 so there should be some substantial shakeup.

Onto the game. I watched the first 2 Maryland games and they were losing both games to Temple and Harvard with 7 mins to go in the game. Meaning that I don't think they put teams away as there top 5 ranking would have it. There SR Point guard seems to be the floor general who can get hot from 3.He was also the reason they won both games against temple/harvard.

I believe Howard is going to need to have a 30 point game again for us to win this game. Fully expect a hard fought victory today. Maryland also has some bigs inside for rebounding but seem to lose battles to smaller guys quite often. Going to need Theo to stay out of foul trouble (probably impossible). Marrow is going to have his best game of the season so far today.

I also feel that if we can win this game today we are going to be going against Nova Jan 4th with only 1 loss as we would run the rest of the non conference schedule.

Unpopular take: I want Doug Sirmons & Bart Lenox to ref our game today. We've already had 2 games to acclimate to their strict whistles & Maryland only goes 6 deep while not having them as officials in this tournament. Would it make for another ugly game? Most likely, but I also think it would lead to another win.

Markus Watch: If Howard can score 30 or more today, he would pass George Thompson for the career scoring average lead. Against an up-tempo team that allows opponents to take and make a lot of threes, he could have a chance.

Forgot about that. For some reason I though Nova was the 1st Big East game.

Have a great feeling about today. Think Markus goes off once again and MU firmly appears on the national radar as a team to watch and Markus becomes the clear front runner for NPOY.

Maryland #17 in Pomeroy, favored to win by 1 per KenPom.

Maryland is a very young team - 306th youngest in D-1, start 3 sophomores.  And much like USC, they are very weak as it relates to yielding 3 point FG attempts, ranking 287th.

Markus is KenPom #1 player in all of college basketball.  All signs point toward a toss up game, yet given our experience advantage, Markus advantage, and our offensive style (lots of 3 point attempts), which is an area where Maryland is weak...we should win the game.

For the bettors.

The O/U started at 152.5.
It is now 148.5.

MU is now +3.5

I am not overly confident today. I was very confident the last two games. But something about it being an early day game makes me nervous.

No we shouldn't. That's why we're an underdog. We should have won the last two. We did.

I do think this is a great opportunity against a beatable team and Maryland is closer to #15 than #5.

This could be considered the under performing coaches game.  For as much as we rip on wojo for not going anywhere in the tournament. Maryland's coach gets 5* recruits that constantly land in the nba and has been to the sweet 16 once time since he got there, that included beating a 12 seed and a 13 seed to get there. He can recruit but is a horrible in game coach.

But very high minutes continuity from last year. They're "young" because of a lot of sophomores getting big minutes, but they all got lots of minutes last season as well. Much different situation than a "young" team with tons of frosh minutes being played.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

Jayce gotta play more

He looks pretty solid today. Really active on the boards and playing good defense. I like seeing this side of him. Hopefully he'll continue to show more of this as the knee improves.
