Said like someone who's pretty much explored one neighborhood maybe 2.

I’ve lived in 4 and explored quite a few more.

To each their own.

Clearly not much of an explorer... Not saying that Chicago's everyone's cup of tea but to say "the same things can be found in every Midwest city" is ridiculous unless you stick to interchangeable white neighborhoods.

See we've literally done this exact thread before. Chick asked me that exact question 6yrs ago. The only thing that's changed is more neighborhoods around Chicago and more time Ireland than before.

I'm not saying it's for everyone. But let's start basic there's only two other Chinatowns in all the Midwest one in Detroit one in Cleveland. That alone means that things can't be found in every midwestern city. We can get into little India's, little Korea's, polish village, little Italy, world class dining, beaches, (To my knowledge MKE is the only other one?) ethnic sports (GAA, Aussie rules football, cricket) and more that if found in other midwestern cities are extremely small relative to Chicago's.

Tower asks, "Now that we have Dawson, what next?"

I say it's nickname time. How about 'Magic'? Can't wait to see what he can do against Georgetown.

I live in Detroit. There’s definitely not a Chinatown. There’s Corktown, Mexicantown, and a huge polish neighborhood (obviously tons of other neighborhoods) but no Chinatown. Maybe google says there is (I doubt it) but there’s not.

Anyone who says Detroit isn’t the second biggest Midwest city is a fool

Google said there was so I took it at its word. Thanks for the correction!

I should be embarrassed because I was curious and wanted to see how many there were? Some academic you are, "don't research anything just make assumptions!". Your faulty assumption is that I researched that today for the purpose of this.

Or is your point that I should subscribe to travel magazines? Or just "know it"

I just think it’s funny that you bag on people’s opinions of cities, but your knowledge is based on google and not first hand experience.

I've been to DC 3x, NYC 2x, Cinci 4x, Indy 2x, Grand Rapids, Detroit, lived in Milwaukee, Minneapolis, St Louis, Phoenix, and Boston more times than I can count, Seattle, Providence, Vegas, Denver, and San Francisco Just because you found a weaker spot in my travels within the states doesn't mean I haven't been anywhere Sultan.

I have not 'bagged' on anyone's opinions of cities in ages, I admit I used to do that and it is why I kept saying "I get it's not everyone's cup of tea" but his statement was the equivalent of someone saying "Yeah you won't find anything special about London you couldn't find in Norwich"

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

5 to 6 years to judge a thread...

So obviously, now that we have Dawson, what's next is another discussion of Midwestern cities.

I've long believed that Indianapolis is underrated. By that, I don't mean it's one of the nation's great cities; it's obviously no Chicago (or even Minneapolis). But I think its reputation as "India-no-place" is unfair. There's a lot to do there. The rest of Indiana that I've seen, however, is pretty cruddy. Certainly nothing special about Bloomington.

If I were a college basketball player and I wanted some feel of a city -- an NBA team, a few cool districts near downtown, a good restaurant scene, etc -- Milwaukee would be an easy choice over Bloomington.

They should change the address of the FF from 1111 Vel R. Phillips Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53203 to 1 Mane Street, Milwaukee, WI 53203

I live in Indianapolis now and it's fine. It will never be seen as trend setting city and it doesn't have to be. It does seem like they're trying to update it with more amenities associated with "cool" cities - better restaurants (at the expense of generic chains) and breweries, more one-off "pop up" events and bars, better concerts, more emphasis on the individualized neighborhoods, etc. They already have both NFL and NBA teams. I've lived in and been around enough other cities to know that that Indy isn't that far behind.

P.S. Glad we got Dawson, what next
