[Paint Touches] Top 50 Players in the Big East

https://painttouches.com/2019/10/07/top50players/

We put a new spin on an old favorite this year. This year we teamed up with contributors from every Big East squad to try to get a truly neutral picture on the top 50 players in the Big East. I'll be posting new segments every few days but for now, enjoy part 1.

Good work. Christian Bishop has upside from the rating he was assigned.

Sacar seems to be underestimated by most. Interesting stat: Sacar was #3 last season in BE trey shooting %.  Joey was #1. Can Sacar maintain that with the increased usage and being the second option and not the fourth?

Do you see him as option 2? I think three.

I could see him anywhere between 2 and 5 depending on how Koby/Jayce/Theo look, as well as how the 2 big line-up works.  That being said, if I had to bet, I'd go with three.

Who do you got at 2? Koby and BB need to show me the jumps in improvement in trey shooting.

Solid work on Part two very well done.

I believe Luwane Pipkins has upside potential from his ranking.

Honestly I kind of see this team as Markus and then everybody else play like the 2017 team where there's no option order it's just everybody take your points when you're hot.

Agreed. I was shocked he didn't get bigger offers coming out of high school, though I'm sure that was due to size. He only weighed around 155 in HS. Reminds me of Acker in the sense that despite great play in high school he had to go prove it on a smaller scale to earn an opportunity to move up to a higher level. Pipkins is extremely quick as I recall, though not a great % shooter as referenced in the ranking. I expect he will be in impact player this year.

Great stuff.  I still think Sacar is woefully underrated and expect him to compete for 2nd Team All Big East honors when it's all said and done.

Next segment is up! No one from Marquette this segment but that's not surprising given who the last player on their list is. Final segment should be out before the first game.

I really enjoyed the segment. That said...yeesht. Kamar Baldwin at #3? Naji Marshall ahead of Alpha Diallo? James Akinjo in the top-10? JRE is Nova's best player? (Okay, maybe, but still tough to put him ahead of Bey & Samuels at this point)

Someone spiked the Kool-Aid.

Part of the reason I had other bloggers join me for the rankings, so I couldn't be held 100% accountable for crazy rankings  ;D

Funny enough, I agree with all your gripes. I had Baldwin #6 (#7 actually, I can't pick Howard), Diallo over Marshall, James Akinjo in the low 20s, and I had JRE below Gillespie and Bey. I did have Samuels below JRE so I guess a slight difference.

Well done. Funny how The Johnnies have two consensus top ten players ( coaches pre season poll also) yet the overall team is not getting a lot of love.

They have no one else in the top-40 and a terrible bench. And two of their top-5 according to this list (#46 Ian Steere and T-#44 Rasheem Dunn) were declared ineligible for the season. I tried to talk myself into this Johnnies team, but hard to see them being anything other than really bad.

I watched the Villanova-USC exhibition a couple weeks ago.  Yes, it was an exhibition, and it was only one game, but Robinson-Earl was the best player on the court.  I believe he ended up with 20+ points and 9 rebounds.
