Most national pollsters giving MU respect

A victory over DePaul Saturday kept Marquette's poll position on a steady track.

Three wins over Top 50 RPI teams currently is good enough for the Golden Eagles to snag a No. 5 seed in Joe Lunardi's bracketology.

"The loss at UConn isn't looking quite so bad all of a sudden," Lunardi writes.  "Still, the Golden Eagles need to find a way to win on the road in the Big East."

Marquette also moved up in the AP pols, but 10 voters still don't think the Golden Eagles deserve a top 25 ranking. Perhaps that's because only 19 teams in college basketball have at least six victories over schools ranked in the Top 100 of the RPI and Marquette (and Wisconsin) are not a part of that select group.

Here is the voting breakdown.

Marquette is currently 19th in the all-important RPI standings, tied with Wisconsin. MU and UW are both 1-2 against teams in the RPI Top 25.

Gary Parrish of CBSsportsline ranks Marquette 23rd.
