MU won the national title 42 years ago yesterday.  To put that in perspective, many of our current players their own parents were very young or not even born yet.

We've had tremendous success, I'm as big a fan as anyone and proudly have the colors flying in my office, on my house (flag), my truck, clothing, etc.... I am as hopeful as any of you guys it can be repeated, and despite the charges against me I do think it is possible.  Going to be tough, but it is possible.  Need stability

"I hate everything about this job except the games, Everything. I don't even get affected anymore by the winning, by the ratings, those things. The trouble is, it will sound like an excuse because we've never won the national championship, but winning just isn't all that important to me." Al McGuire

That is the best pic.
I also realized the other day that it's 45 years since our first Final Four in 1974, Greensboro, runners-up to NC State.
Any others on this board who were there, and perchance also stayed at the Kings Inn, which we basically took over? Remember Al saying it would be a cold day before we could match NC State, and then it snowed! And that semifinal game between State and UCLA-one for the ages.

I will never, ever forget that game. I was ecstatatic for days afterward. Yes, Marquette can do it again. Maybe in my lifetime. It was so long ago that I can picture infant Wojo being propped up with pillows on the sofa and crapping in his diapers while celebrating Marquette's win.
Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

Butch Lee posted a ton of great stuff on FB yesterday. Alfred still remembers the good old days. Really enjoyed some of the videos and pictures posted yesterday. Watching some of the videos just reminded me of exactly in control Al's teams were back then. No running to huddle up on free throw line, jumping around or getting too excited. Basically, a bunch of really talented ball players having another day at the office. They were cool 42 years ago and still remains the same today.

I wasn't in Greensboro in '74, but I was lucky enough to be in Atlanta in '77 as a fourteen year old HS frosh. In fact, we did the full circuit of Omaha, Oklahoma City and Atlanta that year. What a journey!

Agree Goose.  I was a kid in the candy store at one of the reunions when Al was still alive, meeting the players, talking about the experiences.  Working with Bo for several years while he was on staff was very cool....gentle, gentle man.  His daughter worked with us, may she rest in peace.

Cool then, cool today.

Goose, this was what I meant in my PM about how we may wax just a little too poetic about the old days. Nobody huddled up on the FT line back then or got too excited during the game. The excitement was saved for after the game.
