A 5 seed has lost to a 12 seed 47 times since the brackets have had at least 64 teams.  That equates to a winning percentage for the 12 seed of just under 35%.

In the last 18 years, a 12 seed has won in 15 of those years.  Last year no 12 seeds won.

Marquette has been in a 12 vs 5 game twice, once in each of the seed positions.  As a 5 vs 12, MU lost in 2002 to Tulsa 71-69.  In 1993 as a 12 vs 5, MU lost to Oklahoma State 62-74.

So 2002, they were a 5 and lost

2003 ... final four

History will repeat ... next year.

Assuming everyone returns, no injuries and adding Kobe, Elliott and Symir ... that has the potential as a FF team.  Heck this year was top 10 until Markus hurt his wrist.

Was at both of those games 😢
Worst ever was when we lost to Arkansas.  Were a 4 that year tho but still lost to the 12?  Such a shame, 1996 was one of my favorite teams ever at MU

Logical progression predicts like a non-entitled "big leaguer".....

2019...we WIN opening as a #5.....

2020...NCAA Champs.
Zenyatta has a lot....a lot... of ground to make up. She gets there from here she'd be a super horse......what's this.....Zenyatta hooked to the grandstand side....Zenyatta flying on the outside....this....is...un-belieeeeeevable!...looked impossible at the top of the stretch...

The 5 seed is 89-47 for a 65% winning percentage, since the field was expanded to 64

Yup, which would be the inverse of the 12 seed winning at 35%.   ;)

19% from 2, 26.8% overall Pieper 4/20, Eford 2/12, Amal 0/3. We held Arkansas to 31% and still lost. Already had my Atlanta travel plans set.

Quite a few "experts" are picking Murray State, a number of them citing Markus' wrist injury as a mitigating factor.

Meanwhile, I've heard even more pundits (including Seth Davis) picking F%cky to lose their 5-12 game to Oregon.

The athletic department staff was running the first two rounds of the NCAAs in Milwaukee, so we weren't able to go to the game.  It was a Saturday, so we had no games at the BC, but had to be there for the other teams practicing, etc.  We watched as staff in the media room of the BC in horror.  So frustrating. That was a fun team, and we couldn't hit anything that day.  So confident we were going to win that game.

The biggest thing ESPN was mentioning was MSU's 3 point D being amongst the best in the country. Hauser(s) time. They cause 14 TO's a game too so we need to hang on to the ball. Not much height so make them one and done on the offensive end.

That Tulsa loss was brutal. We were really good that year with Blankson

Wade giving the ball back to Cordell and running away from a play designed to get him to the hoop, leaving Travis so have to take a desperation 27 footer was the most brutal part of the game. I never understood that, he'd played really well that game and then he just panicked.  Jon Harris brought it so strong that day, he didn't want his college career to end.

I was at that game, too.  I remember being heartbroken at the time.  That was our best team in a very long time and to bow out that early playing that poorly really stung.

The Oklahoma State game was very disappointing as well.  Just remember Jimmy Mac vs. Big Country.  Jimmy Mac played something like 5 mins and had 5 fouls while Big Country had a huge game.

I honestly don't remember the Tulsa game. I'm not even sure I watched it, because I don't remember this.

So the guy we all say is the greatest Warrior ever really ran away from a potential winning play designed for him in the NCAA tourney?

He absolutely did.  The only unbelievable part of the sequence was Travis missing.  It was a near impossible shot, but it was Travis.

It was an absolutely terrible play. With 14 seconds left if I remember correctly and the shot they got was a center three from about 5 ft behind the 3 point line for an airball.

It would have been a solid play if Wade hadn't panicked and given the ball back to Cordell.  Travis's shot was on target but short and hit Jon Harris in the head and bounced out of bounds. I talked out of the dome in a haze.
