1.  The strength of this team is the team.  On a day where Markus was mortal....
2.  Welcome back, Joey.  I hope this means his freshman slump is over.
3.   Sacar was rock solid.  Getting in the lane.  No help off the shooters?   No problem.
4.  Sam money on the transition 3s.
5.  Careless turnovers in the first half.  Contagious as the stomach flu in second grade.
6.  Providence extended their defense and face guarded Markus.  It was relatively effective.  They also did not help off shooters for a large part of the game.
Marquette was able to get in the lane and finish.
7.  Defense did not rest.  Such effort.
8.  Bailey and Cain weren't great.  Bailey a little better due to a couple of assists.
9.  The Providence press was not effective.  Joey on the floor.  Do the math.
10.  Convincing conference road conquests are worth their NET weight in gold.
11. Nova time.

Hausers were big time.

Glad to have them going

Gave up 3 or 4 Oboards in the first 4 minutes, ended up only giving up 10.  I bet Wojo had to put a dollar in Rocky's swear jar at the under 16.

5 players in double figures, as much fun as Markus going video game mode is, balance is a lot of fun too.

After going 1-3 from deep, Sacar lowered his 3 point shooting % to 62 since X,  get it together young man.

Markus didn't score much, but aside from I think back to back heat check possessions after his deep transition 3 he didn't force much at all. They were beating the hell out of him every chance they could. Get some rest.

This is why Jay Wright's strategy is let Markus get his and crowd the Hausers. Chances are Markus is going to score a lot either way. If you try to collapse on him all day MU blows teams out. The only hope is you have a long, athletic, disciplined defender who can defend Markus one on one and make him shoot over the top, allowing everyone else to stay home.

Wojo had his team locked in and ready to go. The defense was phenomenal. Rebounding felt great too, but don't know if the numbers support that.

Biggest game of the year Wednesday. Let's get it.

Another great team win.

Theo and Ed have become a two heads monster.  We don't miss a beat when one goes out and the other comes in.

1. The Avalanche.              7. Major Goolsby's.
2. The Gym.                      8. Park Avenue.
3. The Ardmore.                 9. Mugrack.
4. O'Donohues.                 10. Lighthouse.
5. O'Pagets.
6. Hagerty's.

In second half, MU was up 14 and Theo missed two free throws.  PU goes on 5 to 0 run and Theo picks up third foul.  Thought this was gonna be bad, but Joey made huge three to get them back.

Theo had a rough one, was poked in eye in first half, no points, but Morrow for second time in three games came through.

Sacar playing out of his mind and glad Joey out of slump, team needs him.

Cain played a few but had a turnover and two fouls in that short time.  Bailey missed another of those corner threes, but one of these two guys will have a big role in upcoming games.

Dish

I didn't think this would be a trap game as Woj really has this team focused. MU has had some slow starts, but I don't judge this team to lack focus. Really good teams do what MU did today, and MU is really good.

Today's take: Marquette went in and dominated to get another Q1 win.

Tomorrow's take: MU got a Q2 win at Providence.

This in my mind is key to making some noise in the tourney.  You know some teams can focus on containing Markus.  Now we have options.

Yep. Just take your chances with the best 1v1 Markus matchup, and hope you hold him to a reasonably inefficient 25. If you can do that, and the rest of your team is able to focus on their matchups rather than constantly being preoccupied with Markus, that's the recipe for success. Its not totally unlike strategy against Jerel in the three amigos years. I just peeked the wiki, and Jerel had 30 in both the '08 and '09 NCAA tournament losses.

No doubt. This team has the makings of a deep tourney run type team

Very impressive road win, they were focused, love this team.

CrowdOf5

Glad to see both Hausers get back on track, need both of them (and Sacar) for a deep tourney run.

MU now the 19th best offense in the country and#1 in Defense on the BE. The boys keep getting better offensively.  And, that was a great TEAM defensive effort today.

skianth16

There are a lot of good things to take away from this, but for me the biggest thing is that the team knows its identity and the guys each know their roles right now. Joey is coming back to form, Ed and Theo are protecting the rim, Jamal and Brendan are sparks off the bench, and Sam and Markus are Sam and Markus. Plus now Sacar has some offensive momentum and has had a few strong games to build his confidence.

This team is going to make some noise in the next few weeks. I can't wait to see it all play out.

So, not quite as good as it was with Rowsey, but progressing nicely.    Meanwhile, the defense continues to win games.    Watching Providence flail around helplessly on offense reminded me briefly of Marquette in the Deane Bargen years.

This is true, but in the last game, Nova completely underestimated Sacar. They will be spread a little thinner if they have to work on both Hausers and Anim. And now we know Theo and/or Ed can also Step up on the inside.
I mean, OK, maybe he's secretly a serial killer who's pulled the wool over our eyes with his good deeds and smooth jumper - Pakuni (on Markus Howard)
