I truly hope that this team still goes to the tourney.  But on that note we cant end up with any seed worse than a 6 if we want to have a chance to win.

What Marquette needs to happen is to get into that one pod every year that has 3 mid Majors and one lone Major team (Which would be Marquette)  Their is a pod like this every year as the tourney commitee wants to limit mids in the Regionals.

The Ideal pod and realistic seed for Marquette would to be a 6 seed where they would play an 11 seed Mid Major like St. Marys and than get to match up with a 3 seed like Butler.

The past two years MU has been in horrible pods against some underachieving Major teams which in my mind are more dangerous than a succesful Mid Major

way too many games left to worry about seeding now.  A hot run and we can still be a 2...on the other hand if things don't get better we will be begging for a 10-12

Take a look at the standings. Right now we are not even going. Forget the seeding crap, we need wins.

I don't know how many people look at it, but there are really cool websites that are "bracketology' type prediction sites, and every one has MU at about a 5 seed coming off the loses last week.

my favorite is: http://bracketproject.atspace.com/

they break down a number of other bracket websites and come up with an average seed for every team getting a vote (see the bracket matrix on the above site)

MU is going to need more wins than losses the rest of the way and a strong showing at the end of conference play and in the BE tourney to get higher that a 4, but i think a 5 or six in the right region could be just the ticket to the sweet 16.

MU is one game behind 2nd in conference, with 3 of its hardest road games already played

Uh, even with our last two "terrible" losses, we're still #23 RPI.   There is NO WAY we are out at this point.  Pomeroy's calculation has us as the #10 team in the country - and I think his is more accurate than the RPI.

Wow...for those that think Crean has done "nothing" - he certainly has raised the expectation of our fans!

I'm not as worried about seed as I am location. I would like for MU to be close to home for the first and 2nd round. It seems the last few years they have been farther away. It would be nice if they could play well enough to be placed close to home for once.

This year's negativity and pessimism has to be fueled by our seeding situation last year.  We all expected a 5 or 6 and wound up with an 8 in an incredibly unfavorable location...

Which means the lesson from last year is that even if Pomeroy has us ranked 10 and we have an RPI of 23, we could be slighted by the selection committee for various reasons... weaker Big East with no #1 seed, less-than-honorable nonconference schedule, etc.

On the bright side, this year's seeding can't possibly be affected by a home L to NDSU.

People are taking the news that Marquette will not win the conference way overboard. Yes, they dropped from that elite plateau but to then claim they won't make the NCAA Tournament because they lost 2 road games? Geezus. MU has done almost everything they've needed to (with the exception of losing to Duke) in gaining an NCAA berth: non-conference wins; non-conference road win over an NCAA Tournament team; hold serve at home; now they have to steal a couple on the road to cement it.
