Using just the regular season, rank these MU teams from best to worst.

* 2007 MU Team (McNeal, Matthews, Hayward, James) Peak regular season AP ranking, #8 November 28, 2006

* 2009 MU Team (McNeal, Matthews, Hayward, Butler, James) Peak regular season AP ranking, #8 January 26, 2009

* 2012 MU Team (Crowder, DJO, Blue, Gardner, Jamil Wilson) Peak regular season AP ranking, #8 February 27, 2012

* 2019 MU Team (Howard, Hauser, Hauser, John, Amin) Peak regular season AP ranking, #10 January 28, 2019



Again, try to divorce yourself of the postseason success ... because we do not yet know what the postseason holds for this year's team.

Why didn't you include 2002? They hit top 10 as well in weeks 14 and 15

But I'd go:

I think the 2012 team was too focused on DJO and Jae (only two averaging double figures) while the 09 team had 4 guys who could go off into the 20s at any given point. Never saw 2003 but it's hard to put a team with Wade below anybody.

Not easy to divorce ourselves from postseason results because we all know what happened. It's human nature. Having said that ...

2003 had 3 players who went on to have long NBA careers, including one who will be in the Hall of Fame. Plus Jackson was a beast of a college post player, and Merritt was good. Pretty easy choice.

After that, probably 2009, and then the next 3 in any order one wants to put them.

Ask again about this year's team in 6 weeks. And then ask again after our long NCAA tourney run.

It's really too early to say. If we keep winning, a top-5 ranking is very possible. As far as teams ahead of us, UNC & Duke play two more times. Virginia plays both of them once. Kentucky & Tennessee play twice. Michigan & Michigan State play twice. And that's not mentioning any loss by Gonzaga or Nevada would be a bad one.
