Easily solved

I first became aware of 'Free Somethings' to Federal Employees when my son told me that certain Washington ski resorts were offering free lift tickets during the week.  He won't be able to take advantage.  He's working his usual hours and he's getting paid..... in real money.

If you happen to encounter a federal worker, thank them for their service to our nation.  99% just try to do an honest day's work.

Agreed. They're all just people trying to make ends meet.

Thanks all.  As a currently furloughed govt worker, I appreciate hearing support like this (and to keep this MUBB tied, the offer for free tix—if only they'd include airfare from Denver!).

The worst part (for me personally) isn't the money—it's that I went into public service to help others and make our country a better place (some might even say 'great again').  To then be held hostage and not allowed to do that is the real slap in the face.  And, the pain that I'm feeling pales in comparison to all those who have lost vital services because we aren't there to do our jobs.

Thank you for your service. Everyone needs to keep in mind a lot of federal employees are only making $40,000-$50,000 per year. If you look at federalpay.org you will see the top earners make far less than comparable private sector jobs. These are people that have families to support, and I'm all for businesses helping government enployees out with freebees such as tickets to see MU.

yes the pay part is true, (my wife is a federal employee), but the benefits are much better than most private sector jobs. also federal employees will get back pay for all the time lost so although it sucks not having the money now, at the end of the day it is basically a several week paid vacation.

You would be wrong, but that's ok.....not the first, second, third, fourth, or beyond for you and others.   ;)

End of the day, compromise.  This is easily solved. Not hard.

Requires BOTH sides to give on something

Sure.

Of course, that would be ignoring the holding of fed workers hostage.

Why not just get the shutdown over with and discuss everything else after?

The time for both sides to give will be after they reopen the government. Be a human being first, and a liberal or conservative second.

You shrug about this use of humans as bargaining chips, but freak out about pirated streams?!?
