QuoteFGCU senior guard Haanif Cheatham will miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery. Cheatham, who transferred from Marquette, was averaging 13.2 points per game.

Always hate to hear about injuries. Hope the surgery goes well.

I hope he kept one of the patented MU walking boots.

Bummer - that is it for Haanif right?  Out of eligibility.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

BM1090

Damn. I was kind of hoping for a Marquette FGCU 3-14 matchup in the tournament.

Maybe we'll get GB or Lasalle instead :)

He may qualify for a medical redshirt since he only played in 9 games? Not sure.

Seems possible. Chris Otule got a medical redshirt for the 11-12 season in which he played 8 games.

Either way, bummer for Haanif.

Sorry, but I was wrong.  He will only be eligible if granted another year.

That's a really tough break. Hope the NCAA gives him an extra year of eligibility. Eligibility doesn't work this way but he's really only gotten to play 2.5 years.

Being in just year 4 of college, and meeting the criteria for a medical hardship waiver and today's "environment", I don't think he'd have a problem getting another year. He may not understand that yet, so who knows... despite his own words, it's possible that he's not yet done... but if that's really his desire - to be done with college ball, hipevthe recovery is quick and full

Sucks for Haani.  What an unfortunate end for a guy that looked like he'd be an excellent four year guy at MU.

I think you are correct he probably doesn't know he can get another year.

Haanif is a very good kid and I hope the recovery goes well. If it is a hard core shoulder injury it could take up to a full year between the surgery, rehab and then the hard part getting into D1 shape. Our family experience  with multiple shoulder injuries is they suck  because the athlete can't do much work while in rehab mode and there is this tremendous atrophy to the arm.  So while you may be technically cleared to play after about 24 weeks the hard core training and getting back into elite level form takes another 6 months.  So he may rethink his current time frame and realize that his pro ambitions may be better served by using the redshirt season.

I saw one game -- he was unfairly (IMO) booted for an intentional/dangerous play on a box out.  He looked ok though in the mins I saw.

Tough break for the kid.

Classy message--doesn't look like he holds any grudge against MU.

Agreed.  Let's hope he's on track for his degree in the Spring.  If that's the case, it makes perfect sense to make some money at basketball if that's open to him.

WarriorFan

rehab and grad transfer back to MU?  Can still do the Otule program.
