Agreed. 11 points 7 Reb 6 assists. What warrants the criticism? granted he turns it over too much but that will improve. I am delighted in what i see so far.

Agree on Joey he missed a couple uncontested layins and struggles a bit with the speed of the game and the tighter passing lanes, but he will be more than fine.  Chartouney trying to do too much too hard in himself right now but his defense is outstanding. Same for bailey, great defense.

I'm not worried about Joey long-term.    To my eyes, all of the newcomers are trying too hard to make hero plays.    I expect them all to settle in.    Joey is going to be very, very good.

1. Newcomers will take a while to get acclimated, but they will be fine.  Morrow showed flashes of offense.  Joey will adjust to the college game.  Bailey is talented and will be fine with time. Didn't some sportscaster in MKE say Bailey was the most impressive player he saw at MU practices?  I'm concerned about Chartouny's speed against high major competition.

2. Cain looks good and should be starting in place of Bailey.

3. I still have no confidence in Markus (or Elliot) handling the press.  When teams press Chartouny will see extended playing time.

4. If Elliot returns in December (and doesn't redshirt) we will be really deep!

5. Already thinking about Koby McEwen joining next year - guards game!

Joey will adjust to the college game.

I'd say he's already adjusted. Had no idea that he could pass or board this well. He might have an outside shot too. And remember, he's gone a year without playing competitive basketball.

Will see how he does against the big boys.

1.   Wow, was that a sloppy blowout.    Sometimes, choose the simple pass and not the hero pass.  And, oh, yeah, catch the ball!
2.  Markus is ok, I guess.
3.  I wonder if Matt is still recovering from his toe injury.    Falling down while defending a Bethune-Cookman reserve is not a good look.   Maybe he just isn't back up to speed.
4.  Joe Hauser still looks a little slow.   Brendan  still looks like he missed two years.
5.  MU can defend the heck out of cupcakes.
6.  MU didn't have problems with the Pope.   Or a doofus.
7.  B-C had a better Bailey than MU.    Ours still has more upside.
8.  If Markus had sat out today, what would the result have been?
9.  As bad as Chartouny looked every time he passed the ball, he looked completely comfortable against the press.
10.  Sacar sure is seeing a lot of minutes.   A year ago, he wasn't as willing to push the ball after getting a defensive rebound.
11.  I haven't seen the numbers, but it sure seems like B-C got a lot of offensive rebounds.
12.  Maybe Bethune-Cookmand and UMBC are a lot better than Montana State, but IU looked a lot more ready to play than MU.    I am not feeling as optimistic as I was prior to the season.     The games against the big boys are coming.    There is a lot to tighten up.

4.  Joey made a few mistakes and missed a few layins but hes pretty good and that will show against good comp.  Baileys shots didnt fall today but did everything else well.  Gonna be good!!

7.  If our bailey is as good as BCs when hes a senior i will be really happy, that kid was really good. Prolly second best player on the court today. A really realy nice player.  Could start anywhere.  Will eaen good money for a long time.

9. You could make a coaching video on chartouneys defensive positioning.  Trying too hard on offense. He will be ok imo
10. Sacar is solid
12.  Did IU play their second five like a hockey shift today? Did they play the minutes our bench did. If Wojo doesnt make wholesale substitutions the whole game and tightens up the rotation MU wins by 50.  And looks alot cleaner.  But 7-11 get a ton less run.  Compare cupcake blowouts all u want. One only need look at the +\- of our starters and the minutes they played.  Play 35 mins n win by 60?

Wojo is frustrated by the turnovers.    Called Morrow's chasedown block one of the best plays since he has been at MU and the most important of the game.     Also said that a whole bunch of guys are trying to learn how to play the MU way and it will take some time.

I count 9 players playing double digit minutes and 16 seeing playing time.    I watched the game.    I don't know how our cupcakes compare to their cupcakes.   All I know is that IU looked really good against their cupcake.

Chances Theo goes the entire season without giving up an and-one?  He seems to have the whole "if you get beat, lay em out" mentality down.

0% Chance.

After 2nd thought, make that a negative 90% chance.

West said its a good thing Wilt was a nice guy, otherwise he could have  seriously hurt somebody. I hope Theo is a nice guy.

I'll probably get beat up for this, but I think part of the problem with new guys pressing too much on the offensive end is Howard. I just watched the game on DVR, and in the first half there were 3 straight MU possessions where Howard just brought it up and shot it, no one else touched it. The 4th possession, Howard drove and looked like he recognized his shot was gonna get blocked, and kicked it out to Sam for an open 3.

I obviously don't mind Howard going off for 37 points, but this roster is a lot different than last years, and Amin and Sam have improved as offensive players. I think as deep as MU appears to be, everyone has to find a role, and nights when Howard isn't hitting, the MU offense will hopefully be able to adjust, particularly the new guys.

I actually thought the exact same thing while watching.  I thought Sammy looked at him a couple times as if to say, hey! I'm wide open!  an dMarkis went down and shot anyway.  Ok, he made the shots too. 😉

He was 100% chasing the 50 burger hard today.  And he wasn't trying to hide it.  He was waving his arms wildly pretty often when he was off the ball to call for it.

He did score on every single one of those tho.

For a while the offense couldn't get anything going, Markus made it happen.

Plus, a few times he did pass we had guys biff the pass

That's funny you caught that too, because I noticed Sam on the third possession kinda/sorta give a "WTF?" look. I'm probably reading too much into it, but there was for sure a look that Sam gave Howard. I thought only I picked up on it, good catch.

You're not wrong, and I don't mind if he goes for it in the natural flow of the game. I'd rather use these cupcake tune ups though to get the new guys going and have people find their roles. There will be plenty of BE nights where games like this from Howard are needed, I think him trying to go for 50 against B-C in spite of the other guys did more harm than good.

Down the stretch, it was clear Markus was the one on offense feeling it. I'm not going to grief him if he's going 7-10 from deep on those nights. We need more guys playing well that give him clean looks to pass out of.

I don't disagree that he missed or almost missed soem chances to get his teammates involved, but when they were struggling, he got hot and just didn't stop

Boozemon Barro

It seems like everyone is playing like they're playing for minutes instead of making the right play for the offense.

GoldenEagle323

Love how sacar is playing, in the first half he bit 2 3's back to back if i remember right, once he blows by his defender he gets to the rim everytime and this kid is a dog on the defensive end... we're gonna need him this year

Theo will get ejected this year for taunting or intimidation. It's coming.

LloydsLegs

I couldn't be more thrilled about the hopes for this team.  33 point win and we have comments like these. Cf to last year and Eastern Illinois.

That doesn't mean the comments are wrong - just speaks to the level of realistic demands/expectations.

Anybody who isn't excited about Joey's present and future, probably has never touched a basketball before (like the kid in the Qdoba shootout).

Joey can handle the ball and get to the basket in ways that others his size cannot.  As much as I love Sam, as a freshman he couldn't create or handle the ball like Joey, and might not be able to now.  Sam it a deadly outside shooter, but the team is giving the ball to Joey on the block and letting him go to work (on a regular basis).  He is quickly becoming a matchup nightmare, and I guarantee we will see him score 20+ points before the non-conference is over.  His coming out party will be here soon.
