Wow, that's two things this month in which Marquette basketball has finished ahead of Duke Basketball

Definitely a pattern developing

The public is slowly prepping duke to be ready to finish behind MU for Wojo after we beat them in the championship this year.

Then the worries about Wojo taking over Coach K's job are baseless.

Why would he leave Marquette for a lesser program?
Have some patience, FFS.

With only 6 of the top 10 they've really fallen off................just like their stock price

UCLA #1 IMO, UNC #2. MU, Duke, IU and Loyola deserving of their ranking. "Nova and Michigan, meh. Kansas and Miami, hideous.

Maybe I'm boring, but I think Xavier's uniforms are some of the crispest out there.

wadesworld

Kansas's, Xavier's, and Nova's "alternates" are as good as it gets, along with UNC's regular uniforms.

MU's definitely deserving of top 10. Some of Oregon's are nice and others are awful. Kentucky's are usually nice.

Am I the only one that thinks Oregon should automatically be penalized when composing lists like this because they play on the ugliest court in basketball?

Sorry gang, they're all dull.

Nothing compares to our early 1970s uniforms that were once described as "made for color television" or the untucked look we had when we won the NCAA in 1977.

I don't understand the artistry of block letters in school colors.

Marcus92

Thankfully, we'll also never see a return to the tuxedos of the 1970s (as much as I love the 1977 team photo).

I think it would be hysterical, however, if the team managed to recreate it at some point.  It might be a little tough to track down enough 70's-style tuxedos that would fit our bigger guys.

Also, wouldn't it be cool for NMD if it was a tradition to wear a throwback uni?

Hysterical yes, but I wouldn't want it to be the team photo. Let them develop their own personality. One of the things that irks me about MU's tradition is it's so stuck in the past even if we had a run of three championships old timers would still be saying "it's not Al level".

Now for NMD I 100% agree, a bunch of other schools in the Big east do it so I don't see why we can't.

1970s fashion was anything but dull. That doesn't mean it was good. Giant lapels? Plaid suits? Flared jeans? All fashion innovations that have since been left behind. I also don't think Marquette's uniforms from this period are beyond criticism.

Take a close look at the attached pics. In the first ("MU Untucked Uniforms"), the strength is a unique and simple design -- including the untucked jersey, school name at the bottom and a distinctive, contrasting color combination. But the numbers are way oversized. The socks are obnoxious. And the shoes don't match anything else.

In the second ("1977 Untucked Uniform"), again, the untucked jersey and colors are very unique. But the arrowhead design on the side (very cool) isn't repeated anywhere else -- such as on the side of the shorts, which feature a stripe instead. These elements could be more cohesive and complementary. I'm not crazy about the mismatched colors of the jersey and shorts. And are any basketball fans longing for the return of short shorts?

Today's uniforms may be nowhere near as innovative. But simplicity isn't a negative when it comes to fashion design.

Dean and the bumblebees winning the NIT, with Dean being the MVP.  Al had everybody talking about the untuck jerseys as well.  He was an innovator and
I am sure the players loved the idea that a player designed them.

Yes. That was his redshirt freshman season.

Marcus92

Or how about this throwback? Definitely one of the cheesiest "coaching" photos I've ever seen.

Coach Chandler: Okay, boys. Take a knee.

Gene Ronzani: Sure thing, coach!

Coach Chandler: Alright, who can tell me what this is?

Ernie Kukla: A basketball?

Coach Chandler: That's right! And it's a darned important part of the game. You might even say the most important part. All right, I'm saying it. The basketball is the most important part of the game. That's why it's called the sport of basketball. Everyone got it?
