Redshirt rules changes
« on: June 20, 2018, 04:15:58 PM »
Apologies if this was covered elsewhere but I see that the NCAA is now allowing football players who play in 4 or less games in a season to consider it a redshirt. They now can play in up to 4 1/3 seasons.  Is this just in football? Has it been discussed in other sports as well?

It's not a redshirt, it just doesn't use up a year of eligibility. In most cases, though, it will take the place of a redshirt year IMO.

This is just football. They will continue to explore similar opportunities in other sports, but I don't think it fits. Very unique situation for football with regard to both injuries and frequency of redshirts.

Don't see a need for it in basketball.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.
