OT: Back-Patting?

The point that caught my eye was this nugget from ChiTownAl: "And you guys didn't say peep to promote yourself, unlike upstarts with their self-backpatting.."

Rocky was gracious in his response. 

My response to ChiTownAl: That's really rich.  The Scout devotees pat themselves on the back so much, they get group discounts down at the local Rotary-Cuff Surgery Clinic.  The galactic irony is that in the same post, patting Scout on the back for a 3rd year, there's criticism of anyone else engaging in the same act.

I, of course, agree that the Dodds and IWB have done a wonderful job, and deserve kudos for their 3rd birthday.  Did you really need to belittle the new part of the online community while giving Scout it's earned due?  Does that make you feel big?

MUScoop has been around hardly a month and its traffic has exceeded expectations, so yeah, ChiTownAl, there's some enthusiasm here.   And, yes, new sites need promotion to get people excited and coming back.   Boy, that must really chap your hide.   

I've always been an advocate for community between the sites, and argued for restraint, but a hypocritical comment like that really pushes me off the bridge.

Let's not go there.  There's no reason any of us can't feel free to be contributing members of both sites.  I knew I was running the risk people would start posting more bashing, so apologize for that.  Let's show some restraint.  We are Marquette.

Besides, the MUScoop Hoodie, thermos, and desk set might just be at your local online gift shop in time for Christmas.  Fooling, but maybe no fooling.

Hear hear!  The original split happened because of a disagreement, and it seems bitter feelings have carried on for more than 3 years.  Isn't that enough?

I just added a post to the thread on scout too.  Competition is GOOD!  We're all better off for it.  But, we're all cheering for the same team, so we might as well embrace the competition rather than try to distance ourselves from it.  At least, that's my philosophy.

They deserve to be patting themselves on the back.  They have done a LOT for the marquette online community over the years and are a valuable and entrenched member of that community today.  They've talked the talk AND walked the walk.  When this site can celebrate ANY type of significant birthday THEN we can talk about holding our own.  Until then (and probably even after then) we have a LOT to prove and a lot of repect to earn.  It is not, and should not be, given freely and we should not expect to be given any free passes.  Nor should we feel slighted because of it.

We have a long way to go.  I am QUITE happy with the strides we have made and am astonished by the response we have received.  I am by no means satisfied.  We certainly have our work cut out for us.  The other sites in the community are pretty big feet to join and I am eager to put the effort into being able to walk amongst them.  I am flattered that they have given us the attention that they have so far.  I see it as their way of telling us we're doing something right.

All that being said, I offer my congratulations on to Dodds, IWB and the many others at scout for their 3 year mark and my sincere thanks for all of their contributions to the marquette community.  I hope that we can become great neighbors who don't mind if ours sprinklers do shed some water onto the other's lawn.  Greener grass on both sides of the fence make it a pretty attractive neighborhood to be a part of.  That is what both sites are here for.  We are (all) Marquette!

For whatever reason the Admins at Scout have always had some huge inferiority complex.  That may have something to do with the fact that every other post they have centers on UW-Madison or UW-Milwaukee.  being from out of state I could care less and for that reason only seldomly choose to go there.   Now for wahtever reason they choose to paint any other board with incredible vitriol.  I find it not only pathetic but childish that they would treat fellow MU fans with such disdain.  It appears to me that that one of the reasons is they operate a pay site and anything that they see as competion they feel will hit them in the wallet.  Therefore, their greed has caused them to lash out.  i feel this also causes those that pay for the services to lash out and discount those that are not paying for these awesome services too.  Sort of a they must be stupid or not real fans like us attittude.  Peopel act in funny ways when they are doing things for financial gain.  Also, when a UW guy runs a Marquette board for profit, it makes those questionable actions less questionable IMHO.

Actually the real reason Scouters look down upon everyone else, and I'm not kidding, is because of people like you, Harrison.  When you post stuff like that, it just adds grist for the mill, laden with inaccuracies and down-right dumb comments.   Thanks.

For the umpteenth time, Dodds and IWB make a paltry sum off of their website.  They, like us, do it as a labor of love.  Of course they want to maximize income, as anyone in business would do so, as it tends to snowball into better things, and in this case, better coverage for all things Marquette.
