NYC Thanksgiving tourney info
« on: June 02, 2018, 06:28:50 AM »
Has MU released any info on packages and the like for the tourney in NYC? For anybody who went to the one a couple of years ago, cheaper/easier to do it on your own or to go with the MU package once it comes out? Did the KC trip about 8 or 10 years ago, but that didn't require a flight, only tickets from MU, so easy enough to just do the hotel on own. Thanks in advance.

I did the 2K at MSG and found StubHub to be a better alternative to the MU package. I sat in better seats than other MU fans that had traveled from Milwaukee & used the package while also paying less money. First game we were 11 rows off the floor, paying $60 for the pair, second game we were second row and paid $140 for the pair. MU package was $300.

The key is being willing to wait. If you buy your tickets 1-3 hours before tip-off, the prices drop significantly. For an event like this, you shouldn't get frozen out, the arena is big enough that it won't sell out. This also works for Broadway shows and other events.

Thanks Brew. Does MU have a package that includes flight, hotel, etc. like they do for Maui, or do they just do a tickets-only package with it being on the mainland?

Honestly not sure. We planned to spend extra time out there so we made our own arrangements.

Planning to go as well and undecided as far as tickets.  With KU, Louisville and Tennessee in this tournament, I am less certain that 3rd party will be as cheap/easy to get compared to LSU, AZ State & NC State.

You can call Anthony Travel. Based on past history, my guess there will also be a Marquette package for this tournament too. I have used them and not used them over the years, depending on the situation. The one advantage is an early shot at tickets and tournament events, bus to games/events, Marquette access as MUAD has your contact and often has B&G events, travel with like-minded fans, team hotel, rubbing elbows, etc. The one stop shopping may be worth the premium if you are looking for the experience.

So, if you are going just for the games, I would buy your tickets on your own as you can do it for cheaper, there will be ticket inventory, there will be many MU fans you can rub elbows with and find out about MU events, and you can personalize your trip more beyond just the games. If it is the Virgin Islands where you are captive, the MU package may be worth it.

It was Michigan, Pitt, SMU. The lower bowl wasn't full for any of the games. I've had similar luck for Hamilton. If you can get tickets to Hamilton, I'm confident you can get tickets to pretty much anything.

I went to the Michigan-MU game, bought tickets on Stubhub for $6.00 each, once in, found great seats.  I would wait.

I agree with the consensus you can probably get better seats for less independently shortly before the game, but as for transport and accommodations not sure.  Oct-Dec is the most expensive time of year for hotels in NYC so it may be better to do a package if offered.  If you're going at it alone, book the hotel as far in advance as possible like now.  Do not wait until late summer or even worse, after Labor Day.

Perhaps not the best place to put this, but have we heard any information about non-conference tournaments beyond 2018-2019?

I've heard Battle 4 Atlantis 2019-2020, from a friend close to the program.

Broeker has hinted at a return to Orlando in the near future as well.

Really? That doesn't sound familiar, but I'd welcome it.

Broeker has hinted at a return to Orlando in the near future as well.

This, on the other hand, sounds very familiar.

I've done 3 straight non-con tourneys, but I think we'll sit this one out.  Went to NYC for the 2K Classic 2 years ago, going back 2x this summer for weddings. Good tourney, bad location IMO.  Maybe I'll just have to make an extra trip to Milwaukee this winter.

Hopefully next year they go back to somewhere warm.  Maui was awesome.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.
