Hurley's teams have always taken on the personality of the school. His squads might not always have the natural talent of bigger private schools, but they'll always outwork, outhustle and outsmart any team.

"We're a bodega and the other Catholic schools are like Wal-Mart," Hurley says.

So to compensate, Hurley preaches discipline. On and off the court, he's about preparing his athletes for the future. He's not afraid to yell, and he expects 100 percent effort at all times.

"He demands perfection," says Taylor, who's rated the No. 100 baller in the Class of 2008 by RISE. "You have to go hard all the time in practice. If not, he's kicking you out."

glad he has a taste of that now since TC will coach practices in much the same way regarding demanding perfection and always practicing hard.

What the heck is a bodega and how bad must it be for it to be considered a a step below the Wal-Mart?

A bodega is basically a neighborhood Quick-e-Mart....NYC shorthand for a neighborhood convenience store of sorts.

Folks out here talk funny  ;D

Oh really?  Not the same talent as the bigger private schools, eh?  Not too many schools have so much talent that effectively 100% of their kids get D-I schollies.  I understand the school is not a wealthy school, but let's not pretend he doesn't get the cream of the crop to go there, which is probably the real miracle.

Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

Does anyone know which one is Taylor in the picture?

He's not in the picture.  The two guys on the outside are Travon Woodall(#10) and AJ Rodgers.  I think the guy in the middle is Mike Rosario, but it could be Jio Fontan as well.

For everyone - Marquette Foods by Subway is a bodega.

In that case...
bodega bo-DAY-ga (noun): the best option for buying beer around campus
