Great for Brunson.

The KU fan who I warned about Delgado and was still shocked at the 20:20 asked me about Nova today.  My response was that if he thought Delgado was a nightmare, Brunson is flat out a winner.

My only fear is that he turns pro and Jay Wright laughs and says "oh, you thought Jalen was good? Here's your next 3 yr horror"

Even if Brunson goes and he doesn't have a replacement yet, Wright has some awfully good players coming back. Spellman is a beast, and then there's DiVincenzo, Booth, Cosbie-Roundtree and Paschall. Then there's the recruiting class with a 5-star and two 4-stars.

Solid program.

Brunson totally deserves it.  Solid guy and came through in the clutch when they needed it.  I believe his game will translate to the next level and I hope to see him in the NBA for many years.

I'm really surprised by the lack of attention Brunson is getting from mock drafts. He lacks the "jump out of the building" athleticism the NBA wants, but he's so solid, smart and complete I have a hard time believing he won't be a 10-year NBA player. Not a star, but definitely a George Hill/Travis Best-type career.

GGGG

He doesn't have NBA level athleticism and that will show up on the defensive end.  He makes up for it by being incredibly smart with great vision in an NBA body however.

IMO he will be one of those guys who is on an NBA roster for years without being a star.

MUfan12

He's a little less athletic, but I see a good deal of Brogdon in his game. He'll play a long time.

brewcity77

I feel like Brunson will be one of those end of the first round guys that ends up on a Spurs or Warriors team and leaves everyone asking "how did we miss on that guy?" What really impresses is his combination of intelligence and instincts. He just always seems to make the right decision.

Goose

Congrats to him. He is an outstanding college player and likely will have long NBA career. He is a smart player and I have enjoyed watching him play the past couple of years.

There is zero chance his floor is as high as Brogdon and that his ceiling is as high as Kidd.

Floor is more like Diener (I think he's a much better pro, but his floor is a guy who plays many years but never really contributes anything) with a ceiling of someone like George Hill.  I would be surprised if he's a multiple time All Star, absolutely shocked if he was one of the greatest point guards to ever play the game and a sure fire HOFer.

Mr. Sand-Knit

Diener?  Alot better than that. Kid is big n strong, only possible thing he lacks is reach n jumping abitty but he is an 11 on a ten scale in a number of other areas

Me too, Pakuni.

He reminds me so much of Mark Jackson. Same height, same ability to post up weaker guards, smart.

He's a better defender than Jackson was, and a better outside shooter. Jackson was a better distributor, but Brunson probably will improve in that area as a pro.

Jackson also was underrated, not drafted till 18th overall. If the mock drafts are correct, Brunson will go lower than that, maybe not till the second round. I think he will have a long NBA career.

There aren't any weaker guards in the NBA.

I was talking about body type most, I guess. Certainly some guards have stronger bases than others. They aren't all the same.

Brunson's reminds me of Jackson's.

Agreed.  And I hope Branson is taller and quicker.   Not to go all generational, but I don't know if Mark Jackson does as well in today's NBA.   Trying to thing of a successful modern equivalent.  Thicker, stronger, not tall, not a great leaper.   Kemba, but he is faster and has a better jump shot.

Kemba is considerably quicker and shiftier than Jackson was. He blows by defenders, especially since he worked to become nearly a 40% 3pt shooter.

The closest equivalent would be Draymond Green, who plays "point forward" and regularly passes out of the post like Jackson used to. But Green obviously is much taller.

Jalen Brunson=Andre Miller with a jump shot.

Or Deron Williams

Two excellent examples. Andre Miller is especially perfect. And I'm also sticking with Mark Jackson!

This is great news. Now go to the NBA and make things easier for Marquette.
