So...we know the game is on Tuesday (MU has said as much)

There's only a 6pm CT and 8pm CT timeslot on Tuesday for the NIT (same on Wed actually).

Any guesses for 6 or 8?

Any guesses for TV (ESPN?  ESPN2?)

Just trying to make sure I've got info as accurate as possible.

My guess is 8:00.  Looks like Louisville will be hosting on Tuesday as well and they are in Eastern Time.  I doubt they tip at 9:00 local.

nyg

Checked my guide for Tuesday, its ESPN.

Glad it's 6p. Now I can make the game

I recall us playing Penn State a few times in the NIT over the years.  Once under Deane for a trip to the finals which we won.  Once under O'Neill and we lost a nail biter.

That 1990 loss in the NIT was Tony Smith's last game as a Warrior.

And the 1995 win was over senior John Amaechi-led Penn State team.

Wish I could be there, but I will enjoy watching another Warrior win on the telly.

Penn State is interesting. They are a defense first team. Besides having Ohio States number (x3), their resume is very blah. Arguably, their best win outside of Ohio State is yesterday's win at Notre Dame. They are a defense first team so while they didn't win many big games, they stayed close in almost all of their games, losing all but two by single digits. This resulted in a gaudy (for an NIT team) KP ranking of 28, second best in the NIT field.

Most of the season, Penn St had 5 legit starters and no bench. Nazeer Bostick was their top bench scorer at 4.9 ppg with dreadful shooting numbers. The rest were all 2.1 or less. But the 5 starters were all averaging double figures including Tony Carr who is almost averaging 20 a game.

Second to last game of the season, starting center and double double machine (12 on the season) Mike Watkins goes down with an injury. Keep in mind that the 2nd to last game of the season was a month ago at this point for Penn St. That's not actually important to the story, I just like laughing at the B1G's mid-major scheduling. Anywho, Watkins hasn't officially been ruled out for the NIT but he has yet to play. Not sure what his status is but the closer they get to MSG, the more likely I think it is that Penn State risks throwing the big guy out there if he is anywhere close to 100%.

So Penn State already lacked depth....then lost a starter....and then the cops got called to Nazeer Bostick's dorm room and found some weed. So their first man off the bench missed the Notre Dame game due to suspension. I don't know if it was a one game suspension or if he is done for the season.

So if Watkins and Bostick sit, then Penn State will always have at least one player on the floor who averaged 2.1 ppg or less this season. Feel like they will need all four of the others to be scoring in order to keep up with us, which is what they did against Notre Dame. They only played 8 guys, 4 of them scored a combined 5 points. Their Big Four scored 68. The Big Four also collectively spent 5 minutes on the bench with Carr and Reaves playing all 40. Garner only came out due to a brief injury scare. Might be a good game to break out the press and try to push the ball up and down the court. If we can wear em out or draw some fouls then we should be able to win on depth alone.

Wow, great intel

Penn State hasn't gotten any bench scoring all year long.  It relies on its bench more for defense.  The loss of Mike Watkins has really hurt as he had been relied on not only for defense, but was a huge benefactor of pick and rolls and dribble drives.  His backups have actually done better than expected, but neither are offensive threats.

I'm nervous our defense is gonna make their anemic offense look like Paul Westhead's Loyola Marymount teams.   Gotta do better than the 92 we gave up yesterday.   An the announcers were commenting on our good defensive effort ::)  We struggle against good defensive teams as we struggle to stop anybody.

Our defense was fine yesterday. We kept them in check for 3 quarters and only started to struggle when the refs fouled out three of our starters.

I agree that our defense has made bad teams look good this year, but they've been better in these first couple NIT games.

Why doesn't MU let people/students stand behind the baskets on the walkway for tomorrows game??  Seems like they could get several hundred behind each basket?

That sounds like a fire hazard,  not sure though, also you would have to sell a seperate ticket for that and with Missy seats being general admission it would be a pain to enforce
