Marquette's a #3 seed this week, playing in Omaha, against Utah State.

More from Lunardi on MU...

Games of the week:

THUR/Marquette at Louisville
Could these end up being the two best in the Big East?

Profile:

Marquette
I think the Golden Eagles are better than Georgetown right now, but the two don't play until March 1. An ASM of 21.54 is even more impressive for a defense-first type of team.

Why seeded here?
The second half pounding of Notre Dame was every bit as impressive as the score.

May change because:
No bargains this week for the Eagles (@Louisville, @UConn).

Good Wins
RPI 1-25: @Wisconsin
RPI 26-50: Providence, Notre Dame

Bad Losses
RPI 101-200: none
RPI 201+: none

Are there any Big east teams outside of the top 100 in the RPI. I wouldn't think so, if only because of the conference scheduling. That means we won't have a "bad" loss this season, even if we lose to a weaker conference team.

Brew City

Lunardi has 8 BE teams in, with 2 teams (Providence and Syracuse) in the "Last Four Out" category.

Though it's not official, if you go by what's on Real Time RPI, there are a few outside the top 100. DePaul is at #104, Cincy at #107, St. Johns at #132, and Rutgers at #196.

I dunno. Let's not look past Florida Gulf Coast.  ;) ;D

I hope not.  I don't want to see Jim Boeheim onevery sports show complaining about why they should have been in again.

Brew City

TT, I thought of that too.  But, with only 7 players, I'd expect the 'cuse to fade in BE play.

And to be honest, if it isn't (or wasn't, last year) Boeheim, it will be someone else.

After last year, I don't think I'll pay much attention to Bracketology as neither Lunardo nor any other experts expected us to get an 8 seed after year we had.  Instead, I'll focus on the Big East - if we finish in first, we'd have to be at least a 2 seed.  Right?

Big east winner will be a guaranteed 2 seed.  If we (or someone else) dominates the league with a 16-2 or 15-3 mark, a 1 might be possible.  But it'll be really hard to leapfrog kansas, UNC, Memphis or UCLA.  Of those 4, i believe UCLA has the best chance of picking up 3-4 losses, just because the pac-10, like the big east, is so deep.  long season ahead, a lot can happen...
