LOL.

Had nothing to do with man and everything to do with Jamal Cain.  Giving up 81 isn't exactly worthy of starting a thread touting our defense, btw.

GoldenZebra

Defense down the stretch was meh. Sam's block was nice.

Mr. Sand-Knit

Was screaming for some zone down the stretch.  If nothing else slow them down a little.  All they were doing is ball screening for foster and it was alayup line for foster on rowsey.  A zone makes them pass a few times if nothing else.  And stops that switch n layup.  Didnt like the defense n the qwick buckets down the stretch but it worked so F it

Another man to man win for the defense. It just keeps winning. The zone helped for 1.5 games off and on

Yep.  No doubt the most astute basketball observers would say we won today because of our defense.  The incredible shot making of Markus and Rowsey were non-factors.

No one said it was a non-factor. Strawman

Defense was fine.  EFG was .522.  Sixth best of the conference season.

No reason to bitch about it today.

Zone was bad today think we were giving up almost 2 pts per pos

We won because of the incredible shot-making of Rowsey and Howard dude. Defense was marginal...it was by no means the reason we won this game.  Cain getting big minutes is what made the slight bit of improvement to our M2M D that we saw today.  But to start a thread touting our defense today?  Silly.

Yep.  Another guy who thinks roughly 4 possessions is a relevant sample size.  Was glad to see Wojo play Cain big minutes though.  He makes a big difference defensively in both M2M and zone.

Ners, you realize that this topic was started just to watch your outrage factor go from 0 to 60 mph right?

You'd think you'd learn by this point, but I guess not.

That's exactly what I said...

Love Cain on the floor.

Ya not saying the zone was great but Late in the game Foster scored  4 or 5 times on dribble drives on rowsey.  Theow a zone for a possesion or two make them do something different n burn a little clock when it is ur friend.  Its not like the man was stopping them.  Our defense was bad down the stretch we were just trading their 2s for our 3s

Ha.  No rage here.  Happy we won.  I fully understand who likes to troll me here.  I prefer to just engage, and b-slap their silly points.

Zone, man to man, triangle and one......this game was won when Sacar went to bench and Cain came in.  Momentum, intensity, flow, everything changed.

skianth16

We won because Creighton missed several wide open shots and we made several tough shots. That's all there is to it. Our defense didn't do a lot to slow them down, unfortunately.

GB Warrior

We limited the damage to Thomas and Foster. Definitely didn't get many stops on those two, but got enough. Some really tough loose balls and rebounds that didn't go our way, but Rowsey got the one that mattered at the end

Yeah I mean it made sense to play Anim considering what he did a couple weeks ago, but he just didn't have it today.  Putting Cain in was very smart.

Wojo tried zone, it got shredded, switched to man, and it was passable. Wojo tried Sacar, he looked lost, switched to Cain and he was solid.

Conclusion, Wojo will try things and when they don't work will switch to something that works better.

I honestly don't agree with that at all.  There were several possessions in crunch time when we forced challenged shots in the half court.  And mostly got the rebounds.  Now our transition D?  That was brutal as usual and frankly would have been the reason we lost had our shooting not been unbelievable down the stretch.

Our defense is always gonna be bad, no matter what we play. Our offensive is always gonna have to carry the load. We're not be Virginia and were never gonna be Virginia,  as long as our offensive has to carry the load you're argument will have some merit. What most here believe is that our defense wasn't terrible today, which was a factor in the outcome. We played better than our average on D today and better than average on O today, that is why we won.

Exactly.  And at this point, nothing is changing.  Just roll with what got us there.

This, I'm waiting for the synergy numbers, but I'd guess that this game was one of our best half court defensive performances. However, we got destroyed in transition.

MU Courtside

I did notice a change in philosophy with the pick n roll defense today. We went under the screen a bunch of times today. We gave up a couple of good looks from 3 as a result. However,  there definitely wasn't a layup line like there was the first time we played Creighton.
