This was actually a great interview.

This part was fascinating.  It also shows tremendous maturity.

On his decision to transfer...

“My junior year was different you know, I really didn’t know what to expect. I spent a lot of time in the gym and it really was what was best for the team. I don’t think it was anything personal me or coach Wojciechowski just thought this was best for our team. I didn’t complain at all that whole year — we were winning and it was big games where I had a big game and there were some games I had to be a great teammate and sacrifice staying over there and clapping, cheering on my teammates — nothing wrong with that. But at the end of the day, I had to do what was best for me and for my future and my family and my son. So, I thought the best opportunity was for me to go somewhere else where I could play point guard and show all of my skills. And coach Wojciechowski, he agreed with me and to this day we still keep in contact. If I have a big game or I see them have a big game, I text one of the assistants, I talk to pretty much everybody in the Marquette program. My mom even still goes to the games up there. So it’s a great relationship I got with both.”

Everyone with the same last name are related. That's how it works.

It is very smart for him not to burn bridges.  I don't think it was as smooth as he implied.

I have been following Duane and Texas A and M all year. Really happy to see Duane doing well .  It is a perfect setting for him and he is playing the role that he is best suited for. Hopefully he can lead the team into the tournament. Love how he takes charge at the end of the game.
Winning is overrated. The only time it is really important is in surgery and war.

I’d kill to have Duane start at point and Rowsey as a Super Sub 6th Man.

Of course, I’m into some weird crap, like passing & defense.

Duane was always much more suited to a conventional 1-5 offense. Not a bad thing and I’m happy he’s succeeding, but he 1-didn’t fit what Wojo wants in a guard and 2-M2N+Rowsey. In the end I think he’s still a great player and by all accounts loves MU (maybe just his old teammates idk) Either way I will be cheering for him... also- Fat Lever is his relative?? How did I not know that?

Duane may not have been the best player but no one ever complained about him ever being selfish.

What he gave in the interview is what I and a lot of others thought he would transfer for. It's hard to be mad about his decision.

And, as Sultan has pointed out, it gave MU the opportunity to offer Joey a schollie for the second semester.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Yeah I dont see how anyone could be mad at the guy anyway. He should be able to decide where he wants to play to expose his ability. Thats why players pick the schools they do anyway.

Every team needs a glue guy like Duane. Just a great ambassador for the program when he was here

Sincerely curious what you mean by this?  Are you referring to his fathers position?

You mean Hannif transferring gave Joey a spot?

Nope.  Haanif's scholarship is gone for the year regardless of his transfer.  Duane leaving, and MU not replacing him, opened up Joey's scholarship.

No I am saying that I think Duane and his family were frustrated with his role at MU and with Wojo in particular.

Oh, I was plenty mad at him, and tweeted my anger directly at him.
I told him good luck and enjoy being a practice player down at TAMU and riding the pine.
I also tried to convince the MU NBA alumni to tweet at him about his #softness.

I mean, he was probably only grad transferring due to grades anyways.
