I would put this one ahead of Novak's.

Markus' Records (per homer)

52 = most point scored in a single game in MU hisory.

52 - ties the Big East Record for points in a game ... set by MarShon Brooks of Providence a few years ago (Feb 23, 2011 vs ND).

52 = Only player in college basketball to score more than 50 this season.

11 3FG = ties his MU record set against Chicago State in November.

Markus started slow and scored 47 points in the last 28 minutes.

Score 10 of MU's 16 points in OT

Agreed.  Wade locked down number 1 all time performance.

I'm sure there are some other big time single game performances, but I have Howard's at number 2.

Wade vs. UK is still the best I have ever seen. Not close IMHO.

Howard was better than Novak...but I think rank Novak higher just because of the stage. Beating #2 UConn in MU's first ever Big East game was just more significant than beating an injury riddled Providence.

This is my thinking - UConn game was just so much more consequential. But those are two pretty amazing performances to be in the same breath with.

I'd put Howard at #3, with McNeal against Cincy early in '09 at #4.

Really hard to top Novak in my book. Novak had 41 in regulation, Markus had 42. Novak's game, though, introduced us to the Big East in such a huge, pivotal way. It's close, though, because of how Markus closed out regulation and started OT - not to mention it was on the road.

Both were amazing, spine-tingling performances.

You know what?  I simply don't care.  It was pure joy to watch incredibly special offensive production in the second half.

I have a theory.  At the end of the halftime, Wojo told Markus that Rowsey would begin the half on the bench.  'Grow up some more right now son' he challenged him. And M2N answered the bell.

We always wonder why our defense can't stop a guy who is hot.

Well Providence is a good defensive team who knew who was gonna score and was helpless to do anything about it.

I wonder how much their defensive 3pt% rose tonight

Homer also said he scored more points as a 17 year old than anyone in the history of college basketball.

Wojo also noted he is six months YOUNGER than Trae Young.

Anybody else catch this?  ESPN2 just ran an extended piece on Markus's career night, showing every three, the floaters, the reverses, all of it.  Added Sam drilling that late three for good measure.  To add to the warm fuzzies, they tacked on "Marquette in the NBA", showing footage from D-Wade, Wesley, JFB, and Jae, in that order.  Great pub for MU, and the unmistakable, if unspoken, message that M2N is next.

I was just about to start a thread with the headline, "Markus getting a ton of love on SportsCenter tonight" before I read Oldgym's post.

About 10 minutes into the telecast, they showed all of his second-half (and OT) baskets and had a running point-counter.

After it was all over, they showed the top MU scoring performances of Wade, Jimmy, Wes and Jae. They effed up Wade - listing his top regular-season performance but not his 41 against Kentucky.

Markus' 52 also was one of the 3-4 stories listed under THE LEAD on the Bottom Line all night.

I guess that kind of stuff will happen when you score 50-effen-2 points in a basketball game!

Wade never had 41 against Kentucky anyways.

Wade is still one of only three players to score a triple double in the tournament, I believe. Tops.

Novak had his big night against a ranked team in MU's Big East debut. Definitely second place here.

Markus ranks third...Until...

Who know what else he does.

I think you are mistaken.

I have been told many, many times here on Scoop that ESPN has a huge bias against the Big East.

Second place, but awfully, awfully close to being top on the list. Special performance.
