SEC v B1G In Bowl Games
« on: December 30, 2017, 10:44:27 PM »
Through Bucky's Win ...

The B1G is 8-0 (1 left to Play, Mich v South Car)
The SEC is 1-3 (with 5 teams left to play, 2 in playoffs)

http://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2017-12-28/college-football-how-every-conference-has-fared-years-bowl-games

Yet the B1G gets no team in the playoffs and the SEC gets two.

SEC overrated?  B1G underrated?

Thoughts?

------------

My Bad ... meant to put this in the Superbar.  Mods, please move.

No.

SEC is better at the top.

B10 is a deeper league.

The Big Ten has gotten a lot better in the last few years.  The coaching has improved with many of the programs which has helped tremendously.

Ohio State is the only team that had a legit shot at the playoffs.  But getting blown away at home to Oklahoma didn't help.  Alabama had just as good a case so I can't really say the B10 got screwed.

The Big 10 has had a great run.  And despite the wailing and gnashing of teeth that will occur here because some of you guys can never wear red, Bucky had an incredible season and is a legitimate threat to compete for a national championship next year.  Getting back some of those redshirt Junior defensive guys for one more run might be the key.  The offense should be world class.

2018 Schedule:

at Iowa
at Michigan
at Northwestern
at Purdue
at Penn State

If UW can go 4-1 in those games, it will be a successful season.  But 3-2 might be more likely.

Bowl records are always a terrible way to measure conference strength, but a little context ....

A team that went 7-2 in the Big 10 needed to stop a last-minute two-point conversion (that wouldn't have been attempted in the regular season) to squeak past a team that went 4-4 in the SEC.

When Miami scored in the third quarter, they did an excited fans shot.    Right behind an adorable blonde was a young man (20's) with a navy 3/4 zip with an MU logo on it that he was holding out and showing to the world.     Two thoughts:   Nice work on the blonde.   And what in the hell is an MU alum doing at a Wisconsin football game?   (unless it was for the blonde.   Then all makes sense.   We've all done stupid sh!t to impress a girl)

Bucky had an incredibly easy schedule this year.  Played no ranked teams until tOSU in the conference championship.

10 of the 11 starters on D are seniors.  Some are redshirt juniors, how many will return?  Hw many will grad transfer?

They will be good next year, no doubt.  But world class?  Thorsen is a better QB and NU might be as good, if not better.

The BCS ranked them with the easiest schedule in the top 25

If they played Auburn or ND's schedule this year, they would have been 8-4. (among the hardest schedules in the country)

...Ok, Iowa was #20 the week they beat them, the only week they were ranked all year.  Michigan was #25 when they beat them, not ranked now.  So I'll rephrase ... they beat no team that could be consistently ranked all season.  They only beat teams that made a cameo in the top 25.

So at the end of season rankings, the biggest regular season win they had this year was Northwestern at home.  Please make the case for me that a team that has Northwestern as its signature win is "world class" and "in the hunt for the playoffs."

Bucky is a good team, they will be ranked next year.  Don't go further than that.

Here you go again.  Shifting goalposts.  Let's count the ways you did so in this very post

1.  glow never said Wisconsin was "world class."  He said next year's offense should be.

2.  You are the only person who said "hunt for the playoffs."  So I have no idea why you put quotes around it because you were literally quoting no one.

3.  Regardless, UW was in the hunt for the playoffs.  Had they beat OSU, they would have been in the playoffs.  But they didn't win and didn't make it.  I don't think anyone here feels that they got screwed.

I mean, your inability to logically stick to your own points of argument is very odd.  But I guess that way you are never really wrong huh?

You mean until they handled the #10 team last night in a true road game?

Look, you can diminish Wisconsin as much as you want.  They were a legit Top 5-10 team this year and will likely begin next season ranked similarly.  And had they beaten tOSU, they absolutely would be in the playoffs.  No reasonable person disputes that.

UW should be very good again next year, but let's not get carried away about the offense. It was an offense that ranked 50th in yards and 29th in points this year. You're either counting on a huge leap forward or have a very broad definition of world class.
More likely, you're overstating the significance of their success against a fairly overrated Miami team that finished its season with four consecutive poor defensive showings.

Not to mention heisy was wrong on the number of senior starters on D.  Edwards, Connelly, Nelson, and Dixon all are juniors. #factsnomatta

He may be like me.

Live in Wisconsin and was a Badger football AND basketball fan as a kid until my dad took me to see MU and George Thompson. Have been an MU fan ever since and could care less about UW basketball

Still a UW football fan though.

Yeah, it will be fun pretending this summer they are a playoff team. Until this stretch, and when they go 3-2,pkus another loss somewhere else ...  Hello Music City Bowl.

Sultan, glow said above ... Bucky had an incredible season and is a legitimate threat to compete for a national championship next year.  So yes, this is another way of saying "in the hunt."  Bend your goal posts the correct way.

Redshirt juniors, academic seniors.  Can graduate and leave or grad transfer, as I said

They were 29th in points with all true freshman and Sophs at the skill positions.

Offense will be better. Probably best combo of RBs and WRs in the country next year.

The only one leaving for the NFL is Nelson. The others will be back.
