Andrew Toney is another guy who had his feet derail his career. He's been seemingly forgotten, but he was outstanding, All-Star player for the 76ers in the early 80s.

Michael Jordan also had a foot injury early in his career but that turned out OK. (Hey, it shouldn't all be doom and gloom!)

Andrew Toney was my 2nd favorite player on the Sixers.  Dr. J was number one of course.  I picked #22 as my grade school jersey number when ever it was available.

"Golden Eagles coach Steve Wojciechowski was present for the surgery."

I'm picturing Wojo scrubbed in, looking over the surgeon's shoulder giving him pointers.

A medical huddle/cuddle if you will.  "When you make an incision, you must use the scalpel" <Wojo screaming in a hoarse voice>

And repeating it.

At least Joey can get practice walking with a boot before he gets to MU.

He had to edge Herman out of the way, though.

Great opportunity for Joey to hit the weight room and build muscle to bang with Big East front courts next year.  Maybe Theo can give him some pointers.

I heard halfway through the surgery Wojo was so upset with his team's effort that he punched through a clipboard.

I'm happy that he is getting surgery now.  His surgeon is The Man.  Let us get him coming back 100% as opposed to some lingering injury.  I'm confident in Marquette's staff to monitor his progress when he gets on campus.

Heal up Joey!

Who knows, maybe that injury held Mike back...maybe he was half the player he could have been?   :o

True, true.

Some interesting comments from Joey ...

BY MARK MILLER
WisSports.net Editor

One of the most decorated high school basketball players in Wisconsin prep history is expected to miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season following ankle surgery Monday.

Senior Joey Hauser, a talented and extremely versatile 6-foot-8 forward who ranks among the top 50 players in the country and helped Stevens Point to the past three WIAA Division 1 state championships, is expected to make a full recovery from the surgery performed Monday by Carolina Panthers orthopedic surgeon Dr. Robert Anderson.

However, the recovery time is expected to run through the end of March, meaning Hauser will miss all but one game of his senior season. Hauser scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed nine rebounds on November 24 to help the Panthers defeat Rhinelander 79-69 in overtime.

"A 100 percent recovery is expected, but not until the end of March," said Joey's father, Dave Hauser. "As parents, both Stephanie and I are fully supporting Dr. Anderson's recommendations."

Hauser's injury dates back to the end of his junior season of football when he sustained an ankle injury in a WIAA playoff victory over Bay Port.

He missed 11 games as a junior while recovering from that injury and then helped Stevens Point capture its third consecutive state championship by scoring 33 points and snaring 21 rebounds in an 85-56 triumph over Arrowhead in the Division 1 championship game.

One of the leading candidates for the state's Mr. Basketball award, Hauser sustained an injury last fall, but the Jones fracture he suffered is 100 percent healed, according to Dave Hauser.

"The football injury flared back up after a few weeks of practice and we wanted to get Joey 100 percent healed so it's an unfortunate timing for all involved," Dave Hauser said.

With Hauser in the lineup, Stevens Point was among the favorites to win the Division 1 championship in March. No Division 1 school has ever won four state titles in a row.

But with the Marquette University recruit now sidelined, there is no clear-cut favorite to capture the D1 state crown.

"Obviously knowing that I won't play at all this season is a tough pill to swallow," Joey Hauser said. "God would never give me something in life I could not handle, though. So I am going to take advantage of this. I want to become a more vocal leader for my teammates and help them out as much as I can.

"I'm just really glad the surgery is over now and I have a clear plan of what I have to do to get better and improve. I'm going to rehab really hard and make sure that I come back stronger than I was before. This ankle has been bothering me for over a year now, so I am really excited that I finally got it fixed and I am pumped to get back and playing."

Playing alongside his older brother, Sam Hauser, and all-state guard, Trevor Anderson, Joey Hauser averaged 9.9 ppg as a freshman and 17.6 ppg as a sophomore while helping Stevens Point to a combined record of 55-1, including convincing state-title game victories over Germantown (2015) and Muskego (2016).

With Sam Hauser playing at Marquette and Anderson playing at Green Bay last season, Joey Hauser increased his output to 23.6 ppg as SPASH finished 24-4.

Hauser finishes his prep career with 1,161 career points with his highest two scoring outputs having occurred in his final two high school games.

"My mindset has changed a little bit, too," Joey Hauser said. "I am really focused on getting back to 100 percent and getting ready for next year. I knew going into this surgery that I was most likely not going to play at all this season. As badly as I want to play this year, I know I have a college career ahead of me and I have to look at the bigger picture.

"It stinks that I cannot go out there this year and compete for a fourth Gold Ball with my teammates that I have been playing with since fourth or fifth grade, but my teammates understand my situation as well as the coaching staff and they all want what is best for me."

Stevens Point remains one of the elite teams in the Wisconsin Valley Conference behind the strong play of senior guard Drew Blair, a NCAA Division II recruit for Northwest Missouri State. Blair is currently averaging 33.0 ppg for the 2-1 Panthers, who play Marshfield tonight.

Man if the ankle was significantly impacting his game last season.... Imagine the numbers he would have put up if he had been healthy

Guys,

A quick, true story of hope.

The last two weeks I’ve been off the court due to shin splints. This morning was my first game back. When we hit the floor at Target Center, I knew I was ready for a big day.... and it came. Lots of NBA treys, and hit the game winner with a former NBA player watching.

I feel Joey will persevere just as I did.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.
