Wow, and how many minutes did he play in the first half against uga? More like 90 in 2 1-2 games.

Btw, was really great to be the only Marquette fans living in Auburn so we could take grief from my UGA fans after the basketball game and then again after the sec championship,
and then have the rival Alabama team we just hammered the week before selected while they were taking the day off. No really, it was great.

Homer says 81 minutes. 96 points.

If I'm not mistaken, the announcers said he was the only player in MU history - since 2000 - to do it.

Which would explain why they only named Wade, Wes, Crowder, etc, but not Lee, Thompson, Kojis, etc.

I don't know that anybody else did it, but maybe somebody did. Maybe they only had since-2000 stats handy. I'm sure somebody will flesh out the stats before 2000.

I always get frustrated when NFL announcers talk about the all-time sacks list - rarely noting that the official sack stat dates back only to 1983. I'm guessing Deacon Jones had a shyte-ton of sacks. Or blocked shots. Does anybody really think Russell and Wilt didn't have more career blocks than anybody ever? It just wasn't an "official" stat back then.

Not to take anything away from Markus at all. He's been a stud.

I did not hear that qualifier and I have you doubt you did.  Curious, why only go back to 2000?  We have game box scores and schedules much further back than 2000.

I get why sacks only go back to 1983 ... because that is when we started recording sacks as a stat.

Doesn't football keep play-by-play archives?  What's keeping the NFL from going back and simply matching-up any play where there was no pass attempt or hand-off that resulted in a loss of yardage and counting those as sacks?  Sure, you'd miss any sacks from tackles for a loss of less than a yard, but the vast majority would be accounted for, no?

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Tony Smith had 97 in 1989-90

However, did he have three straight 30+ games.

Anyway, in a vain attempt to find boxscores for these games, I found this article:

https://www.upi.com/Archives/1990/03/08/Loyola-67-St-Louis-58-Dayton-90-Detroit-72-Evansville-66-Marquette-57/1188636872400/

"Chris Mack led the foul shooting in the last two minutes Thursday night to lead Evansville to a 66-57 win over Marquette in a quarterfinal game of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference tournament."

Yes...it's *that* Chris Mack who transferred to Xavier the next year.  I also remember having a "listening party" for that game in my apartment.

Thanks for providing this.

Markus is impressive enough without folks creating make-believe "records" for him.

84-88.   Two years of Majerus, two years of Dukiet.    I have peered into the abyss.    This isn't the abyss.     Could very well have gone the way of Loyola, Chicago.

Which has a better team than DePaul.  If we could only make the switch. Loyola would improve in the Big East while DePaul may have improved to the point of having the very best last place team in Big East history.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

No way.

Loyola plays in an arena that is only slightly larger that the AL, and they have an average attendance  last year of 1,800 fans, which is a third of DePaul's.  Why would the Big East want that?

I am old enough to remember when Marquette and Loyola used to play at a reasonably full Chicago Stadium.

Loyola has like zero basketball tradition. They had one good championship run, a random sweet sixteen and that's it. 5 NCAA appearances and 4 NITs would put them farrrrrr behind the rest of the conference

When is the last time Loyola beat a ranked team?    When is the last time you thought about Loyola?  And I was there when we were losing to Loyola.   Back to back years.   Road tripped down to Chicago even to watch a loss.   Losing at  home my senior year.    Good times.

Fun fact I learned while looking up the capacity of the Joe Gentile arena:

Loyola is the only school in the state of Illinois to have won an NCAA championship in basketball.
