I think/hope we'll be pretty good, but guessing what we'll do on a Tuesday 4 months from now seems like a fool's errand to me.de.

Wouldn't that apply to Kenpom as wll as for the same time frame?

As this thread (and entire board) is for entertainment purposes, I suppose everything on here is a fool's errand. And yet we still all read it...

Two quick observation of this Tread's Predictions.

  1) Amazing the number of 20 or more wins (Approx. 17 of 21) as compared to Kenpom  16-12 recorded, he didn't include final 2 games in Maui.

   2)  The absence of some of our High Profile/Vocal Posters.
I think every year we have this kind of thread most of the posters are 20 wins plus. It is an MU fan board so we are going to be biased positively toward our own success.

I can't believe we haven't seen one of these yet. Time to go on the record with some preseason predictions. Listening to the Scrambled Eggs podcast had me wondering where I would have us, and figured everyone should get the same shot. Here's the schedule, along with a few bonus categories on the bottom. Just quote the post and give your results:

Nov. 10 - Mt. St. Mary's      W
Nov. 14 - Purdue                L
Nov. 20 - vs VCU                W
Nov. 21 - vs (Maui)             L
Nov. 22 - vs (Maui)             W
Nov. 27 - Eastern Illinois     W
Nov. 29 - Chicago State      W
Dec. 2 - Georgia                 W
Dec. 5 - Vermont                W
Dec. 9 - @ Wisconsin           L
Dec. 18 - Northern Illinois   W
Dec. 21 - American             W

Dec. 27 - Xavier                  W
Dec. 30 - Georgetown          W
Jan. 3 - @ Providence           L
Jan. 6 - @ Villanova              L
Jan. 9 - Seton Hall                L
Jan. 12 - @ Butler                 L
Jan. 15 - DePaul                  W
Jan. 24 - @ Xavier                L
Jan. 28 - Villanova                L
Jan. 31 - Butler                    W
Feb. 3 - Providence               W
Feb. 7 - @ Seton Hall            L
Feb. 10 - @ St. John's           W
Feb. 17 - @ Creighton           L
Feb. 21 - St. John's               W
Feb. 24 - @ DePaul               W
Feb. 26 - @ Georgetown        W
Mar. 3 - Creighton                 W

Total Record: 19-11
Big East Record: 10-8
Big East Finish: 6th
Big East Tournament Record: 0-1
Postseason: NIT 2-1
Leader Scoring: Markus
Leader Rebounds: Matty
Leader Assists: Rowsey
Leader SotGs: Sammy

I think a rough patch in January with some really tough road games and a bad night against Seton Hall at home ends up costing us an NCAA bid even with the furious comeback at the end of the season.

Disagree somewhat. Sometimes Scoop entertains, sometimes it informs, sometimes it does neither. Maybe it's just me, (and if I'm being a grumpy old man I apologize) but reading game by game predictions for the entire year based on what we know in October fits option #3 IMO.

I agree as we only have one player with 3 full seasons of experience. We are again very young.

Well if you have any Qualm about predicting, by all means Don't do it.  To me its a fun way to challenge myself.
And the beauty part is I have a chance to Honestly say I know more about MUBB than Kenpom, and I don't get paid.

So true. I always over estimate. Some people feel like they have to predict reality. As a fan, I’m more motivated by hope than cold reality. And when cold reality meets or exceeds hope, it’s very “cool”. Key phrase here is “as a fan”

Like last year, we'll win a few we aren't supposed to (@ WI, Nova at home (we're in their head), but then drop an egg too (@Georgetown). Losing some close games we could've/should've won (Georgia at home, Hall at home) will leave us firmly on the bubble and needing a first round BE win (against the Hall) to squeak into a first-four seed, which we lose to NCAA nemesis  S. Carolina. Wojo completes another "B-" season - doing enough to avoid any hot seat talk, but leaving us hoping that 18-19 will be the breakout year.

I still agree with this analysis. Merry Christmas MU - go to sleep with visions of stomping Xavier in your head!

Even though we were not favored, I would say that we certainly were “supposed” to win that game. That would have been considered a bad loss as opposed to a game that we won that we weren’t supposed to win.

Impressive stuff above, well done!

That 1-4 start to the BE scares me. If we're 1-4 having to go to Butler to win, a place we've struggled at, I'll start to get nervous. I think it's imperative to start at least 2-3 in the first five, which means we likely have to win 1 of @Providence or Seton Hall at home, which I think is doable.

Bumping this thread. Purely because many people predicted we would be 2-3 or even 1-4 through these first 5 games.

Some(here's to you merritsmoustache hit the nail on the head! 8-))
Myself, I was a bit off.
But I think it just warrants some remembering that we are doing better than most thought at this point in BE conference.

Hooray! Keep it up boys!

I don't think anyone had the Georgia loss.  And very few had a W marked down @PC and vs. SHU.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

I had them at 12-5 at this point and 3-2 in conference -
albeit with a slightly different constitution of W/L

tell 'em what they won, Don!

I?m feeling good. 10-2 and got all 5 BE games right.

But that?s where it ends. I have losses for Butler away, X away and Nova home. I honestly say we Beat Butler and one of the big 2. Then I predict 7-2 on the back 9 and going to stick with it. 13-5 baby!

Looking at my prediction.  We're one game ahead of my predicted pace.  But I think we're playing better ball than I had thought we would.  Tonight is another wonderful opportunity.
