Assuming Cubillan gets his shot back, will that be enough to make these zones go away?  Usually MU can plug in Cubes when DJ and McN are off. That hasn't been the case for a while.

Yeah, yeah, needless to say, we need SOMETHING in the middle as well.

Boognish_MU

Cubillan is so overrated offensively it isn't even funny.  He is a very streaky shooter who assumes he has a constant green light.  I don't think he is that good at handling the ball and I don't think he has good vision.

That being said, I think that Fitz and Acker and Cubes (when he's on) can help beat the zone.

Fitz and Cubillan are averaging about 7 attempted 3's per game between them.  If McNeal and Matthews continue to be auto-miss from 3 we might need that number to go up to around 10.  For Fitz that means taking the shot when he has some room but isn't wide open like he did well last game, not like WVU.  For both, that might mean needing a screen set for them.  Unless either can learn to fill the stat sheet a little more that doesn't mean more minutes.  It's clear they both are capable of being great bench players.  Cubillan was awesome at the end of last year and in November.  Fitz has shown he's capable of scoring 20 and at least grabbing a few rebounds.

They said he was having some type of foot/ankle? problem last night.  Has any ony heard of this?  It might explain why his shooting has fallen off the last two games.

Coobey sprained his ankle just before Christmas.  I think he is still healing.

I think we need to run our 4 guard set more often with Cubillan or Acker to spread some teams out and make them run with us a little. The only thing with Cubillan in that set is that it forces James to run the point because Cubillan isn't the best ballhandler

Ready2Fly

I really don't understand why Cubillan was back in action for the Savannah St. and Providence games if he still had to heal.  It's not like we needed the extra help in those games.  Now we face a situation where both Cubillan and James are dinged up, and we're about to face ND.  I'd much rather have no Cubillan for the last two or three games so he could be healthy for this weekend.

he's without a doubt ONE of the keys...
It's not about ME,
It's about US.

I'd still like to see Scott C get some time - once he calms down, I think he can help be a zone-buster.

I would agree that last year Cubes was tentative and didn't do anything other than pop threes (which was fine).

This year, however, he looks much more aggressive and in control out there. He's driving the lane and penetrating...something he never did last year consistently. He's not as deft a passer as James or Acker, but with his intensity and defensive pressure, he's a great cog to have as a back-up PG to spell James and Acker.

I would much, MUCH, MUCHHHH rather have him in there than Scott C. I know he's the white-super-hero from Wisconsin and everyone there seems to love him, but he's - as they say in Israeli - uber slow. And his release is the same. He would have been better off to be redshirted.
