The UNC Wilmington Women's Beach Volleyball team is expected to lose half their scholarships.

Spotcheck Billy

Nice timing being Friday the 13th and they are hanging a banner at Late nite with Roy Williams tonight.

Norm

NCAA determines that infractions could not conclude academic violations at UNC.

What a joke.

The academic fraud was school wide, it wasn't just a benefit given to their student athletes.

Norm

But the fraud kept their players eligible.

UNC should lose their accreditation.

UNC should lose their accreditation.

In a nutshell, this was UNC's defense with the NCAA:  "This is between us and our accrediting agency, and none of the NCAA's business."

It is my understanding that the accrediting agency put them on probation, but that was concluded in 2016.

They'll use a similar defense to get out of dealing with Baylor. "That's between them and the Department of Education." Problem is the NCAA is the only one that can hit them where it hurts. Accreditation probation? Who cares? Title IX violation, sure they COULD deny federal funding but that has never happened and I doubt it ever will. If you start disrupting their athletic programs, they will actually listen. I know people are nervous about where the line is but I think there can be some common sense used in cases like this. Sure other students could take these fake classes but with the high percentage of basketball and football players taking these fake classes common sense tells you that they were being used to keep football and basketball players eligible. Yes, Baylor is accused of violating Title IX but common sense tells you that it was done to protect and benefit their football team.

No punishment for UNC. NCAA says they lack authority to punish for this. My sense is that the other presidents pushed behind the scenes knowing everyone has unclean hands.

So could Pitino have Adidas give a truckload of money to some random students and then say that it wasn't a privilege reserved for athletes and get away with it?

The though of Shane'o Mac bursting out out from behind closed doors to body slam Roy Williams makes me chuckle.

This is almost entirely the result of their overreach at Penn State. How Emmert is still in place boggles the mind

That is just magnificent, and sad, and true.

muwarrior69

So why are there some advocating paying the players (Jay Bilas)?  Are they not actually being paid to attend classes where they don't even have to show up so the NCAA can claim they are not employees but student athletes since the NCAA has no jurisdiction on curriculum?  What is the problem?
