Racists attack LeBron
« on: October 01, 2017, 11:41:43 AM »
More from the "It's Always About Race" Dept.:

http://www.nba.com/article/2017/09/30/cavaliers-owner-dan-gilbert-receives-racist-voicemails#/

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert received "vile, disgusting" voicemails after LeBron James called President Donald Trump a "bum" on Twitter.

Gilbert said he was flooded with phone messages when the NBA's most celebrated player criticized Trump for rescinding a White House invitation to Golden State's Stephen Curry to honor the team's NBA championship.

"I received voicemails after LeBron tweeted that were some of the most vile, disgusting, racist," Gilbert said Friday on CNBC's Squawk Box. "There's an element of racism that I didn't even realize existed in this country this much."

Gilbert said he had not told James about the voicemails. He called the comments unnerving.

"And you could hear it in their voice -- the racism," Gilbert said. "It wasn't even really about the issue, and that's what really got me, because they went to who they really are, some of them."

So what we had was a black athlete calling the president a bum. LeBron didn't call Trump a racist or even imply that Trump's reaction to Curry was racially motivated.

I can understand how Trump's supporters wouldn't like their hero being called a bum. And I can understand how a few might want to fire back by leaving Gilbert voicemails. But they apparently didn't simply say stuff such as, "No, LeBron's the bum," or "Just tell LeBron to shut up; we love Trump!"

They went off on "vile, disgusting racist" rants.

Tom Brady said Trump's comments about NFL protesters were wrong and divisive. There was no hesitation or ambivalence even though he had supported Trump during the campaign; Brady was firmly backing his fellow players.

I just googled the words "Brady" "Trump" "divisive," and on the first 4 pages I couldn't find a single reference to a single negative word against Brady for saying what he said or for supporting the anthem protesters. Hmmm ... I wonder how Trump's sheeple would have reacted had Brady been black or Latino?

Actually, I don't wonder. I pretty much know. Robert Kraft would be talking about the "vile, disgusting racist" voicemails he had received.

Gilbert's most interesting quote was: "There's an element of racism that I didn't even realize existed in this country this much."

Really? Has he been hiding under a rock? We had neo-Nazis, Klansmen and white supremacists marching on a major university town, totally emboldened. They don't have to wear hoods anymore. They have been endorsed by very powerful men in American society.

And then there's this ...

Some bozo thought he would make a "joke" by putting a "COLORED" sign over a water fountain in a building on the UNC Charlotte campus.

So it really wasn't racist statements on Gilbert's vmail.  Gilbert "heard it in their voice."  And what makes Gilbert and expert in hearing racist comments in voices?  Try this ...

Were Dan Gilbert’s Comments Racist?
July 15, 2010
https://kissdetroit.com/804111/newsonebp-poll-were-dan-gilberts-comments-racist/

The letter, which was posted on the Cavs website after James signed with the Heat, was criticized by several media members and most notably, the Rev. Jesse Jackson. The civil rights leader claimed the letter had made LeBron seem like he was a “runaway slave” and Gilbert was his “master.” The letter included words like “traitor,” “narcissistic,” and “quitter.”

Gilbert, just another lily white billionaire that probably likes NASCAR.

But what I just presented is an example of how one doesn't have to be an "expert" to hear racism in the callers' voices AND vile, disgusting, racist words.

I'm not sure what your point was, anyway. Are you trying to defend racists here, Smuggles? Cast Gilbert as a liar? Say LeBron is such a jerk he deserves to be the subject of racist rants? Blow the whole thing off as not being that racist? What?

I have had to endure stereotyping and prejudice my whole life. My attitude was to work hard and be the best I could so people would not define me by my skin color. I understand Lebron has a visible platform and he is using it. However, in my view he could actually achieve much more for our community if he used his wealth to create something with enduring value.  Earvin Johnson has moved in the value creation direction, and has earned considerable respect beyond just being a celebrity.

Both LeBron and Magic are smart and talented enough to do both at the same time.

Jordan is just now getting more involved in social issues.

These gentlemen have a platform and fame, and they can be great change agents. I happen to think it is their duty to do so, and I'm glad they do, too.

The sad thing is we don't even know if these claims by Gilbert are true. There have been so many fake hoax racist hate crimes reported that have proven false, it does a disservice to those that truly are victims of those vile actions.  One website has cataloged over 300 with news outlet attribution just in the last 12 months.  People putting Swastikas on their own homes and claiming someone did it, when it was them.  People sending racial stuff in the mail to themselves.  Leaving racial voicemails to themselves.  Crazy what is going on.  Fake noose stories.  What are these people trying to accomplish? All it does is question the validity of these accusations and makes it difficult to find those terrible people that do actual, racial stuff.

So true.

Really wish LeBron would step up, and be of value to the greater community.

Gilbert is the owner of Quicken loans, a billionaire, and the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers. How come his phone number is so accessible that any person off the street to call him up and leave a racist diatribe on his voicemail?

Gilbert can be 100% correct.  But Gilbert has proven to be loud mouth that says things without thinking, has a problem with basic facts and pushing agendas in the past.  He’s not much different than POTUS.

So before you get blinded with your ideology and make stuff up make yourself feel better and be morally superior, let’s just wait and see how the story  holds up in the coming days.
