It's perplexing to me that the two best players in this game by a country mile were two players on a school that hasn't won an NCAA tournament game since before our National Championship.

Meanwhile our team's two best players against actual athletes are an uninspired yet freakishly athletic senior and his senior center who never could put it all together at once.

On the other hand, for 29 minutes Wojo coached one side of the best game of the round of 64.

Wojo has to recruit better athletes if he's going to survive.

3 seasons ago Wojo was left with Juan Anderson and Derrick Wilson as his seniors and recruited Matt Carlino as a graduate transfer.  Flash forward to year 3 and he already had us in the NCAA Tournament.  It's one thing when a coach is left with Wesley Matthews, Dominic James, and Jerel McNeal.  It's another when it's Juan Anderson and Derrick Wilson.  It's a minor miracle the talent now compared to the talent Wojo was left with, and Wojo didn't even have an opportunity to recruit a class his first year here.  I think he's doing just fine on that front, and is ahead of where he really should be overall.

Juan Anderson's athleticism was sorely lacking today.

Coming from someone who thinks it's an insult to call someone they don't like/agree with "gay" ("gaysworld"...hilarious!), I'll take that as a compliment and contemplate where I went wrong with the post you say makes sense.

There you go, back to being a dick to people you've never met on the internet. Flex wades.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

I mean, Thornwell was SEC Player of the Year. And both Thronwell and Dozier are former 5 star recruits. And South Carolina was seeded above Marquette (which is much more relevant than them not winning a tournament game in past seasons). Those two players were also playing in what was essentially a home game.

So....its not that perplexing that South Carolina had the two best players on the court. If the two played again, I bet Thornwell would still be one of the best two but Dozier would probably not. Dozier sinking that end of a shot clock three that was several feet behind the arc....when he is a career 28% 3P shooter....the final sign that this was not Marquette's night.

Disagree  about athletes. He can recruit. He can't game plan, and for whatever reason, he cannot coach defense. While learning on the job, he cannot fulfill those two important coaching needs.

I checked and Thornwell and JJJ were in the same class out of high school.  Rivals had JJJ as #35 and Thornwell as #43.  Dozier was #35 in his class two years ago.  Mock NBA drafts have Dozier as a potential first rounder and Thornwell in the second.  No JJJ.  Some reach their potential, while others fall bit short.

Thornwell was probably the best player I saw against MU this year, with the exception of Delgado.  At 6ft5 and 210, he was just a man against boys and has a great outside shot.

One improved more than the other and now has a complete game.

Mr. Sand-Knit

Size, strength, and speed on their side.  Physically manhandled us.  Just beat us up physically and mentally for the last 30 minutes.  Shows how far we still have to go in the area of recruiting.  Cain, theo, ike etc are a step in the right direction.  Again i say kudos to this vastly flawed n undermanned team for acheiving what they did do
