I'm playing the following game with some friends: each player picks 5 teams that must have a minimum total seed value of 40.  You get one point per win in your group regardless of round.  Player with the most points wins the pot.  My picks are locked now that the games have started but anyone want to try?

Minimum seed total has to be 40.  You only have 31.

Notre dame - 5
marquette - 10
butler - 4
smu - 6
cinci - 6

I assume the First Four don't count, right?

I'll take Wichita State (10), Rhode Island (11), Marquette (10), Maryland (6) and UCLA (3)

Just realized I picked three teams from the same regional. Oops.

Right, you would get the play in winners.

This is what I did:

•   Duke (2)
•   Arizona (2)
•   SMU (6)
•   Troy (15)
•   North Dakota (15)

Yeah, I was just talking with a guy at work and figured that the best strategy is probably two in the 1/2 range, one 6/7 and a couple throwaways.  That's probably the way to go.  A smart hedge to pick the 15s that are playing your 2s.  If there are a couple 3/4 you loved in a given year, you could upgrade down into the area where you're actually trying to pick an upset instead of simply hedging.

Yeah, I don't really love anyone on the 3 line and thought there was good value in those top 2 and a decent chance of SMU making the sweet 16, where I would have Duke anyway or Marquette in which case I'd be super happy (especially since I went to MU undergrad and SMU grad school).

Didn't see this.  Cool idea.  Had I seen it I think mine would've been pick the 2 teams I had playing in the finals (so Duke and UNC), 2 16 seeds getting me to a total of 35, and then pick someone 5 or below that I would've liked to go far.  This year I probably would've picked Michigan (would be between them and Xavier as I liked both to get to the S16, but I like Michigan's S16 chances with Boucher out over Xavier's...not sure I could've picked ND in this type of pool despite having picked them to go to the E8).

Edit:  With money on it, that last team, in order, probably would've gone Notre Dame 1, Michigan 2, Xavier 3, SMU 4, Wichita State 5.

So my choices probably would've been 1 UNC, 2 Duke, 3 ND, 4 South Dakota State, 5 Mt. St. Mary's.

OK, by my count, the current standings are:

StillAWarrior - 4 (UCLA (2); RI (1); Wichita State (1)) (UCLA remaining)
Frozena Pizza - 3 (Arizona (2); Duke (1)) (Arizona remaining)
Chitown - 2 (Villanova (1); Wichita State (1)) (no teams remaining)
wades* - 4 (UNC (2); Duke (1); ND (1)) (UNC remaining)

I would have picked Xavier, UCLA, Michigan, Middle Tennessee, and South Carolina.

How am I doing??

Automatic disqualification for picking that last team.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
