Expectations for Sandy Cohen at Green Bay?
« on: March 06, 2017, 11:53:23 PM »
What are all of your expectations for Sandy during his tenure at GB?

It sounds like he will get his 1.5 years starting next spring.

I'm a Green Bay fan first and a Marquette fan second, I'm curious to see what you all think we should expect from him over the next year and a half...

I think Linc is a great coach and gets the most out of his players. GB is also a fun team to watch with the pace that they play.

Who cares?

Just curious what people who have seen him play think he is capable of?

Prolly 8-10 points a game n solid defense.  He sould be fine in the Horizon, just not good enuff for the Big East.

I expect he'll be one of the top defenders among horizon league 3/4's.  I agree with earlier post of 8-10 ppg mostly on catch and shoot because he can't drive and has no mid-range or off the dribble game.  Mostly he'll hang out on the perimeter and wait for the ball.

My expectations for him are actually a little higher.    I am assuming that he is spending his year off working on his body and rebuilding his confidence.   At MU, every now and then, he would make a play and make you wonder why he couldn't do that all of the time.  I think he does well at UWGB.    12-15 ppg.

This. I bet he'll even have a couple of 25 point games where he gets hot.

I think he can drive against Hirizon league players.  Dont forget he did drive the ball at MU but wasnt always qwik or strong enuff to finish.  Different story in the horizon league.  I too would expect him to have some high scoring games but not necessary have a huge average.
Look at similar players that went the same route... Ron Howard became a really good player at Valpo
Steve taylor at toledo etc.

Based on what's happening in the horizon league right now... that place is a damned toss up so maybe Cohen can put UWGB over the edge?

Cohen was a solid defender in the BEast so I think he can probably defend very well in horizon.

Sandy has been at The Al watching his sister play. He will be a star in the Horizon. Taking next year off to play a full year will allow for the development of his skills.

He'll be a solid player.  A "star?"  I doubt it.

I don't think he makes first or second team all conference.

I expect him to do well at GB.  I think his best games were against the mid-major / non-conference schedule.  His athleticism will be on the higher end for them.  He will be a good defender for them.  I agree with another post that he will be able to drive and finish in the Horizon.

I would expect some conference post-season honors for Cohen.

I think Sandy will do much better at Green Bay. I think the year off will really do him good. I think he'll be one of those all-around players who can score, rebound, and defend. I could see him being a 14/6 guy at that level. Might not be a POY candidate but I do think he could be first or second team all conference if he has the confidence.

When Sandy plays confident, he plays well. He really just got caught up in the numbers. Behind Ellenson, JJ, and Cheatham last year, never really had a chance this year. With Cooper, Hurdle, Lowe, and Botz all graduating, there will be a ton of minutes for him. He's going to have his chance to not just carve out a role, but take over. In that system, I think he'll thrive, and he'll be able to play through mistakes, which was never really possible for him here.

Pretty sure Sandy is eligible next December, and can play half the season, and graduate.  Or sit out the entire 17-18 season and have a full year the following season.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

To answer OP's question, expect numbers similar to what Jamail Jones did after transferring from MU to FGCU:  http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jamail-jones-1.html.

Sandy might be slightly better from outside than Jamail, but he doesn't have the handle or physicality to be a go to guy, even in the Horizon.

Based on a reliable person I've talked to, it sounds like he will get the waiver to have this December-March AND the following full season.

Who cares?

No need to be a jerk. The guy is a GB fan looking for some thoughts.

Honestly, its hard for me to say. He might end up being a productive contributor at a place like GB. 10 ppg is certainly possible.

GB has always been the only other in-state program I don't cheer against. I always hope they do well and win the Horizon. And when Wardle was there, all the more reason.
