Is it me, or has Hauser been playing great these last 3-4 games? He seems to be more reliable knocking down the open 3.

Someone hit me with stats proving my eyes aren't failing me.

They aren't failing you.  Sam's a smart kid.  Very deliberate with his shot taking as I think he could probably find even more looks from three but passes them up.  He's a great player and can't wait to see him improve. He had some big rebounds last game too.

Dude already reminds me of Kellan Dunham, and he is probably going to be a much better college player before all is said and done.  And I really liked Kellan Dunham.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

The last two games we have seen more hauser post ups and 10 footers. If he can really make that part of his game, pull down at the arc and come inside a bit if needed, it will really be great.

forgetful

I think the season went fairly typical, but accelerated and better than a normal Freshman.

He started out the season shooting very well against weak competition.  When the BE conference season started, his shot suffered a bit as he adapted to the different level of competition.  He hit the typical Freshman wall.

What was impressive, is during this slump the rest of his game remained very solid, and he quickly got over the Freshman wall.  What we are seeing now is him returning to the same form as the beginning of the season, but now against much higher competition.

Extremely impressive.  He's now starting to feel comfortable mixing in some drives, post-ups etc. I look forward to years to come.

Nothing but upside. Hopefully he doesn't disappear like HC has done gradually throughout the year.

Eyes not failing you: 11/20 from 3 in last 4 games, ~130 ORrtg

Frenns Liquor Depot

As good as the O reemergence has been, I've been more pleased with the advances in defense, footwork and rebounding.  He is staying in front of his man and not fouling.

Excellent freshman season and I hope he just continues to build on it (and tells his brother about how much he loves MU!).

I thought he was outstanding on Saturday. Best game of the year for Sam. He did everything well. Shooting, passing, defense. Just had a great, great game.

brandx

He has done all of this playing out of position.

Next year he will be able to play a lot of '3'.

I read this and panicked that he was gunned down on Wells Street or something like that.

But then again, I live in Chicago.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Ellenson Guerrero

Sam will never be great athletically, but he's a heady player that has an instinctual feel for the game.  I think he could wind up being a slightly shorter version of Steve Novak.

Wrong.  Sam is a tremendously gifted athlete.  He doesn't make mistakes.  He can shoot, pass, jump, run, rebound and defend exceptionally well.   He was Wisconsin's best highschool basketball player last year.

Love his game, and exciting to see him put the ball on deck a few times the last few games.  If he can add a quick pump fake and drive, will be that much more dangerous.

His shot is slightly slower than KR's or MH's, just by hair, but if he has that extra half second, think he can be even more deadly than the guys above.  I can't recall many wide open 3's Sam has missed.

tower912

Next year, playing at the 3, Sam is going to need to improve his lateral quickness and his ability to get to the basket off of the dribble.   Not immensely, just by a matter of degrees consistent with freshman to sophomore growth.

Compared to us on Scoop, he is a great athlete. Compared to better college players? No. Nowhere near an elite athlete. But neither was Bird (not comparing basketball skills).

Anybody who doesn't think Sam isn't athletic wasn't watching the WIAA D1 State basketball championship when he threw down a NASTY ally oop off an inbounds pass.

When the going gets tough and the opposition becomes more difficult a player has to rely on his skillset and fundamentals.  Sam is able to do that.  Haanif has only ever developed his left hand.  He is half a player.  If he chooses to spend the next 7 months developing a right hand he will be fine, it can be done.  Haanif has a choice to make, i hope he embraces the challenge.  I like his defense and intangibles n think he can definitily be a threat offensively if he can go both ways n finish on both sides using proper fundamentals.

Uh, I venture to guess 99% of Scoopers didn't watch the state finals last year.   ;D

Agreed next year he will be a better, more complete player.

Sam, Markus and Matt were the best new three some since D, J and W.
