eFG% did NOT Reign Supreme

For the first time all season, the winner of a Marquette game was not determined by the team with a higher eFG%. MU won the most important factor (and by a significant margin) but Providence won the other three including one blowout that was the biggest margin against Marquette this season.

eFG%:
MU: 58.7%
PC: 52.9%

TO%:
MU: 22.5%
PC: 18%

OR%:
MU: 17.2%
PC: 33.3%

FTR:
MU: 19.2%
PC: 59.6%

The 50.4% FTR differential between Marquette and Providence is the largest in any game this season. Well outside of a normal standard deviation. Providence was attacking more so they should have shot more FTs but you don't get this much disparity without a little bad officiating.

The OR% was also a product of the FTR as Marquette's bigs were on the bench for too much of the game and had to be non-agressive when they were in due to foul trouble.

Conclusion: Marquette played good offense (minus a couple bad TOs) and good (by their standards) defense. Lack of ability to contain penetration and quick whistles led to differentials on the boards and free throw line that couldn't be overcome by their shooting.

Providence shot 58.1% from the line yesterday... and that was a good thing for them. 58.1%.

BTW, we let them shoot 55.6% 2FG%. That's the worst our defense has been in 8 games.
