That's the one I was thinking of. I see he was from Provo, UT which is probably why I thought Mormon. Did it ever come out why he was kicked off the team? Google search had some drug innuendo but nothing solid.

Mortensen is Mormon.  He just didn't go on his mission.  My recollection was that he was actually ineligible per NCAA rules which makes me think gambling, performance enhancing drug, etc.
