OK, I'll partially contest.  People are asking me to ignore Sam's 19pts, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and one assist -- and choose the guy with 15 pts, 10 reb, and...well, that's it!?!?

Admit it.  You all just want to see every active scholarship player get a SOTG!  Do you think we just give participation ribbons here!?!

I thought we gave banners around here

Real team effort but one player was Heldt.  and shoulders over other candidates

Rocky, self impose a personal ban if you screw this up.  Matt anchored the team.

Heldt didn't miss all night.  10 rebounds.  Perfection.

Sam with the three turnovers disqualifies him

GGGG

I thought Heldt's performance overall had a larger impact on the outcome of the game than Sam's did.

This is a nice problem to have.  Great performances all around.  Looking forward to the great finish to the season!!

Last time around, Yakwe killed us. Tonight he was denied in the post. It's not ignoring Hauser, but acknowledging Heldt.

1.  Matty. Came to play.  I get your rationale Rock, but he was perfect on the night.
2.  Doggie. Great seeing him go off early and often.
3.  JjJ.  The dunk alone gets him third.

Good team effort. Go Warriors!

Heldt.  Very impressive development from year one into year two.

I'd say on top of that, his non-con improvement until now has been very encouraging. He made a big leap last year too, but got hurt towards the end.

brewcity77

Good point, Lighthouse. Matt didn't just score 15, he was 6/6 from the floor and 3/3 from the line. No wasted possessions on offense. 100% eFG% cannot be denied (especially considering Sam's paltry 95%).

Had Markus not exploded last game Matt 'the difference' Heldt would be back to back.

Look at the line my brothers:

29 minutes, 6-6 shooting, 3-3 from the line, 10 boards, 1 TO, and 3 fouls.  That's the equivalent to 140+ quarterback rating.

This one is a lot closer for me than I think for most.

Reinhardt- When SJU went on a run and got it to 10 points, Katin went on a personal 10-0 run to squash their momentum and keep us out of spitting distance. Handed out 5 dimes too.

Sammy- Set the tone early going 4-4 from three. Grabbed eight boards and was a terror defensively nabbing three steals...two of which were all out effort plays.

JJJ- Least deserving of the group but I though he responded well after the benching and had a run in the 2nd half that put a stop to SJU's last stand. Plus...that dunk.

But the SOTG should go to Heldter-Skelter. 100% from the floor, 15 points, 10 boards and solid defense in the post. Was the heart of the team tonight.

TAMU sums it up perfectly. Not discounting Sam's performance, and could care less about having all Scholarship players win SOTG, but IMO Heldt was SOTG tonight.

I'd put JJJ ahead of Reinhardt but otherwise I like everything you say here.

This is why we didn't need to give Heldt a pity SOTG a few weeks back when lots of Scoopers were lobbying for it even though other players were easily more deserving.

40 years from now, when Matt is bouncing his grandson on his knee, he'll proudly recall this day and finish describing the action by saying, "And when I got my first SOTG, I really earned it. That's what made it so satisfying."

Had the same thought. Turnovers were the difference for me. 1 for Heldt, 3 for Sammy.

It was a good team effort overall. Sam got us out of the gate strong. He had a robust stat line. However, what Matt did against a very athletic team is impressive. I would say give it to Matt simply because without him we would not have won. JJJ had some honorable mention worthy moments in the second half.

Yep, because then Fisher would have had 22 minutes (double his 11), 12 points (double his 6), and 14 rebounds (double his 7), and 10 fouls.  Or maybe not.

Heldt was also fantastic defensively, hedging screens and getting back or keeping with the guard.
