Don't think we will be. Might not even be ranked if we also beat St John's and DePaul. Will depend on Creighton does the next couple of games, if they win out for the next two weeks then our two wins look a lot less fluky and we get some credit. Also the teams in the 20-25 range have to lose as well.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

No team in the top 25 has more than 5 losses. We need to keep winning and teams ahead of us need to lose a few. But we will get some votes.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

We didn't get a single vote this week. We will get plenty this week, but I would be shocked if that bumped us into the top 25. I hope it doesn't. Remind the players that there is more at stake.

Would prefer not to be ranked.  This team does best as the underdog.  We don't need Prov. SJ and DePaul putting a target on us as a ranked team.

Coleman

we won't be. if we win the next 3 (prov, st johns, depaul), we have a shot at cracking the top 25 the week of 2/6

I don't know who 24 and 25 are, but MU will be ranked 23 on Monday if they beat PC this weekend.

Beating two top ten teams (one on the road) in a 3-day span cannot be ignored by the voters.  Again, I won't be surprised if some voters have put MU in the upper teens depending on how 15-25 fare this week.

That said... with #2 and #4 also falling last night (not helping is that those two are playing this weekend), the usual publicity bump a team gets from taking down #1 is going to be overshadowed nationally.  And let's not dismiss that AP polls are, to some extent, still popularity contests until mid- to late February.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

More importantly, CBS Sports has moved MU up to an 8th seed playing Dayton.  There off the last 4 in right now.

6 losses. we won't be ranked.

Enough teams might lose by 2/6 that we get ranked with 6 losses at that point. Need to win the next 3

Others receiving votes.    Too many losses.

#7 Creighton then #1 nova?
We have to focus on beating providence by a good amount. Then we can talk about rankings

Benny B

Keep in mind, guys... the AP poll is not a "power ranking" or RPI poll that is predicated on body of work; nor is it a predictive poll of how a team will fare moving forward like Ken Pom.  It is a static "who are the top 25 teams right now" poll.  Every voter will naturally look at MU's overall record, but whether they do or don't vote for MU is supposed to weigh recent performance more heavily than what they did in November & December.

Moreover, voters have a tendency to justify their previous picks by artificially elevating other teams.  A team that pulls off one top 10 upset (Creighton) can be considered a fluke, but two top ten upsets against an opponent who's not even ranked calls into question why they even had those teams in the top 10 in the first place.  In other words, there will be some ballots this week where MU will show up for no other reason than for the voter to save face.

KenPom still has us at 32?  I thought that was where we were pre-Nova.  The current chart says it includes results through 1/24. ???
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Babybluejeans

Beat the #1 team and we have every voters' attention. I bet we get a lot of votes for 24 or 25 but wind up just outside the top 25. Say, 26 or 27. If we beat SJU and DePaul, with natural attrition, we should be ranked in two weeks.

I can't believe we're even having this conversation right now. Sweet.

LAZER

We'll see...Xavier vs Cincinnati and Maryland (at Minnesota) have opportunities to lose before the week is over. Kansas St already lost, Northwestern can lose to Indiana.  If the right losses fall in place, they could sneak in.

That's correct, but keep in mind that the rest of the teams in the Big East haven't played since Saturday and Kenpom depends as much on how your opponents do as it does on how you do. After tonight's results, especially if Creighton wins, I would anticipate MU moving into the KenPom top 30.

Pitt losing by a million did not help us either.
